About this restaurant

  • Good for business meals
  • Charming
  • Good for groups
Our family roots reach back to a small family farm. A farm that provided my parents a hard working existence – nourishing the land to produce the freshest quality of fruits and vegetables. Our childhood lessons included the benefit of hard work and personal sacrifice, so when it came to food we never cut corners and a passion for simple but really good food began.

All my recipes reach back from my grandmothers to my mother, and today to you. We take personal pride and dedication to serving you quality food with only the best ingredients prepared our own way.

We at ‘It’s a Utica Thing’ treat our customers like our friends, our friends like family. If you have enjoyed our food tell a friend and bring them in to join our family.

The service was very good and the restaurant itself is very nice. Unfortunately, the food was very disappointing. The ricotta in the squash blossom special was not seasoned at all and the bolognese was also under seasoned. The carbonara was not good at all so I told the waitress I couldn't eat it. I had only taken 3 or 4 bites and determined that it actually tasted off. She offered me a different dish but I declined. When the bill came, they had only discounted the dish instead of taking it off. I decided not to complain. We thought we'd try again another night. But after we paid, the waitress said they had been having problems with the carbonara for the last couple of days. She remembered that a few other tables the previous night particularly complained. We didn't say anything else we just left and decided that we will not be back.

Chicken parm was really good, my daughters enjoyed their meals as well. Steak was perfectly cooked and the pizza was just right.

It was a great experience on Valentine’s Day for our party of 7. We ordered Utica greens, rice balls and calamari for appetizers and all delish. The chicken riggies were amazing , little spicy but not too overpowering. We would definitely come back when in town.

The food was good but a little pricey. There was a DJ there, which was nice, but the music was too loud. It was difficult to hold a conversation. We had a pleasant experience overall.

We loved the look of its a Utica Thing very cute inside. Every employee was so nice - especially the bartender- she was sweet and funny. Loved her. Our waitress- adorable young lady with long eyelashes and a whole host of colored pens - was also excellent. Three of us ordered eggplant parm which was delicious! My husband had the bolognese which he devoured. The only thing that was a negative is that it was cold inside - probably because it’s a small place and when the door opens it’s a shot of cold air. Not sure if anything can be done about that but just wear something warm when you go - which you should definitely do!
