Borrowing its name from an influential 1850s-vintage bar in the Central Business District, this pub-like tavern (with courtyard) occupies an old brick Creole cottage in the French Quarter, where well-known local bartender Chris Hannah serves up cocktails both classic and contemporary. London-born chef Philip Whitmarsh runs the kitchen.

    We had a very nice meal here (pimento cheese potatoes, redfish w/ leeks and mushy peas, excellent Wagyu beef tongue dish). Serving sizes were quite large. I'm inspired to cook some of what we ate. The cocktails were excellent. Our server had deep knowledge of the menu and seemed excited about what's going on at Jewel of the South. The ambience was cozy, almost resembled an old fashioned parlor-type setting with eclectic decor.
