   We were seated upstairs for a quiet dinner to celebrate a special anniversary. Our server, Syreeta, was excellent at answering our questions and meeting our needs. The food was reminiscent of a fine French cuisine…. Delicious.

   We have to say that our server Deja was absolutely amazing. So personable, so knowledgeable and a fantastic steward of the most hospitable service. We both had the Steak Frites. The steak was juicy and cooked as requested. The fries were a bit cold while our steak was piping hot. Recommend dropping fries in the oil of choice minutes before the steak is done so patrons get an equally hot meal. I enjoyed a dirty martini and the garnish of three olives. The olives were so sad. I expected a good healthy bite into a firm olive. These olives were very small and more soggy than firm. For dessert my husband chose the bread pudding which is more of a moist, spiced and citrus cake. It was delicious. The choux pastry dessert was not it. The pastry was stale, crumby and the ice cream wasn’t flavorful. A drugstore scoop of Blue Bell or Breyers would have been more thoughtful taste wise. It was a great date night but this is probably the last cost to Josephine’s.

   We would highly recommend this French style restaurant. The interior is stunning, the food is excellent, and the staff very accommodating. It is not inexpensive but great for special occasions.

   Amazing experience. I’m gluten free and they had a gluten free menu already set at my table and offered me gluten free bread. The French onion soup is some of the best I’ve had and the trout was amazing! Will definitely be back!

   So lovely to sit in the light filled but warm atrium on this cold and blustery day! 11am brunch is exactly what you should do if you want to be relaxed and enjoy a quieter atmosphere. This is the second time we’ve been here and the service was outstanding both times. Our waitress mentioned she had been working there since it opened - a great testament to how they treat their employees - just as nicely as they do their customers 😄

   Delicious food, better service! I heard they had some of the best steak frites in the area, and was not disappointed. The Trout Amandine was also incredible, and the restaurant is gorgeous. Staff is very professional and kind, and the wine menu is great. Will visit again!

   Since the closure of la-bergerie in Old town in 2016 which operated for 40 years there has not been an upscale elegant French restaurant in old town Alexandria. La Refuge has wonderful food but it’s more casual and very small and cramped. Josephine checked all the boxes, elegant decor, great wine list and wonderful food. The subtle lighting and dark wood decor made it a wonderful place to celebrate the anniversary of our first date that led to a long marriage. We will be back.
