Review summary

AI-generated from verified diner reviews
Kaiza Izakaya in Newtown offers a "hidden gem" experience with "incredible food" and a unique Japanese-Vietnamese fusion. Standout dishes include scallops, prawns, pork belly, and mussels that are "rich and packed with flavors." While service can be inconsistent, the "friendly" staff and "fantastic atmosphere" make it worth visiting.

Excellent food - very creative and unusual flavours. Scallops and prawns were outstanding dishes. Everything we ordered was great. Very nice wine. The guys were lovely - a bit stretched at times as the restaurant was very busy but they were very friendly and helpful. A great night. We will go again.

Overall the food was very unique and delicious! I would say this place is a hidden gem and I would definitely recommend people to try this place for sure. The unique combination with the Japanese and Vietnamese cuisine was spot on. We ordered pork belly & duck for mains, salmon tartare with yuzu dressing. We 100% recommend to order the pork belly as their meat is amazing. We weren't particularly a fan of the sauce that came with this dish but the duck came with this sauce as well and marinated which was a bit meh. But overall, we would love to go back there and try other dishes on their menu!

This is our first visit probably the last. We tried the set menu with some add on’s and the food is average; it’s fusion concept but doesn’t mean that almost every dish has to be spicy / fried. Dish of the night is paradise prawn with spicy coconut shiso I just love that sauce/dressing; lamb ribs with yuzu miso is of good flavor too but the meat is too fatty. It’s not full house but still long wait between courses so we wonder how the kitchen will perform when it is full house. There’re many waiting staff but service can be sharper. Overall it is an average dining experience and not matching the hype of online reviews.
