About this restaurant

  • Neighbourhood gem
  • Charming
  • Great for outdoor dining
On October 4th, 2022 the Dutch red windmill opened her doors to Fred & Diana.

Diana is known for Diana's Pancakes, across Barcelo and before that, she was the owner of a similar pancake place next to the mill.

Fred is known for his former restaurants Chef's Tables, 2 Fools and a Bull and Fred Restaurant in downtown Oranjestad.

The two decided to work together and King Fred & Princess Diana was born. Diana delights guests with Dutch pancakes in the morning, while Fred takes the reins in the evening, serving a diverse range of international cuisine for dinner.

On the second floor you will find our souvenir shop that can be visited anytime upon request.

The third floor belongs to Frans, who is a well known bartender in the Aruban hospitality industry. He will serve you cold drinks for a reasonable price.

Good food for good value. Casual atmosphere, attentive waitstaff. Both the mustard soup and French onion were savory and served hot. The ravioli appetizer was delectable. The masala chicken packed spicy heat and was a hearty portion. The chicken cordon blue did not contain ham, but the chicken was tender, and the mushroom gravy a nice accompaniment. For dessert, the apple pie and stroopwaffel ice cream was excellent. Highly recommend.

The chicken parm isn’t traditional chicken parm had a white a Parmesan sauce. The chicken cordon blu had almost no cheese and had no ham. Oyster sauce was salty on Asian chicken. Chicken masala was good. Service and staff were great. Attentive. Prices were more than reasonable.

Always a pleasure dining at King Fred! We had the mustard soup and the stuffed ravioli to start… excellent!! Then chicken schnitzel and cordon bleu with the mushroom sauce… simple, delicious classic dishes. Topped off with homemade stroopwaffle ice cream, perfection!! The staff are welcoming and friendly with the bonus of eating in an historic windmill! King Fred’s is a must do when we visit Aruba.

Our party of 5 arrived an hour ahead of our reservation time hoping they could seat us and they did. Service was top notch. We had the drunken chicken which came in a little stock pot. It was presented and then dished out by the waitress. Rich and flavorful! The schnitzel was crispy and the mushroom gravy was served on the side. The cordon bleu also had a crispy exterior with a nice ham and Gouda cheese filling. The king Fred salad looked a little dull but we were fooled. It was full of walnuts, Gouda cheese, apples and had a very nice dressing. We topped it with chicken which was plentiful. The only disappointment was the vegetables that were served with each meal. Plain mashed potatoes with steamed carrots, green beans and celery root. These were bland and under seasoned. But the chicken was so good we overlooked that. Our star of the evening was the apple pie served with a flavored whipped cream and a stroopwaffle ice cream. Oh it was to die for!! We would highly recommend eating here and will be back on our next visit.
