Originally opened by Jane Vobe in 1772, this authentic reproduction public house serves up a transporting experience for the senses in Colonial Williamsburg. Everything is true to the time period at King’s Arms Tavern, from the fashion sported by servers to the pewter candlesticks—all adding to an air of colonial elegance. Inspired by 18th-century recipes, but with updates to suit 21st-century tastes, tuck in to a chophouse menu featuring prime rib, pork chops, and more.

ADA Accessible dining is available in the Purdie Kitchen. Please note this colonial building is separate from King’s Arms Tavern. Please check-in at the front, and our host will escort guests to the Purdie Kitchen.

The taverns are located in the Historic Area, and not on a public street. The Tavern is a short walk from the Tavern Parking lot which is on Francis Street.

I was on a solo retreat and wanted to indulge! I ordered the appetizer ham platter. Very tasty. Then I had the prime rib, cooked perfectly! It came with a soup or salad and dessert. I had the salad with pecans and apples. Delicious! I savored every course, but didn’t over indulge in any one thing. Dessert was the “snow eggs”. Honestly, it was absolutely delicious, with cinnamon and meringue over custard and not too sweet. However, mentally, I couldn’t get pass the name and how it was two plops of whipped egg whites over a very thin, runny custard. I’m glad I tried it…would have eaten more if it had not been for the visual snafu. I took all leftovers back to my hotel and had a late night snack since I ate dinner at 5pm. I want to send a special thanks to the anonymous, kind person who surprised me and picked up my check. I’m sure they didn’t know I had ordered a $105 tasting “experience”. It really made my night. I took the retreat to reset myself for holidays after losing 2 close relatives this year. It’s nice to know there are still good people in this world. My husband is going to feel like he missed out (and he did!), but he understood. Now, the downside of the entire experience was the parking. I didn’t see anything on Open table about parking. The lot is on a back street and not clearly marked. It is a walk for someone who needs two knee replacements. I had to walk down a dark street & alley, only to find two handicapped spaces immediately behind the tavern. How would anyone know that? Be sure to know details about parking before you go to avoid missing your reservation. I ended up calling the restaurant phone number which is the main Col. Wmsbg. number. The operator stayed on the phone and helped me to find the lot. The issue is that the restaurant is IN the historic are where no cars are allowed. As a grandparent of a 1 year old. I agree that it’s not the place for babies. You could really ruin someone’s special night.

Service and food and ambiance was generally outstanding. Sadly, a young child was making noise throughout dinner and so it was different to enjoy a romantic meal in lovely candlelit, historic surroundings.

Amazing experience at King’s Arms Tavern in Colonial Williamsburg. We made reservations for dinner before the Grand Illumination. We were seated quickly in one of the quaint rooms and had attentive service. The food was outstanding from appetizer to dessert. We enjoyed the fife and drums playing outside as well as two strolling artists who played in the different dining rooms. Once our meal was finished, we walked outside to enjoy the fireworks which were seen perfectly outside the restaurant! Although expensive, it was a special and lovely family holiday experience!!

King’s Arms Tavern special event dinner for Grand Illumination was outstanding. Although it could be described by some as “ touristy” since it is within Colonial Williamsburg, it is not all average tourist food. The service, all the staff, and the ambiance were excellent. The ambiance setting the stage for Christmas was definitely on point.

Enjoyed an early 4:30p holiday dinner. Reservations are a must, especially during summer or holidays. The ambiance is very nice, food was good and our server dressed in period costume was wonderful! It was a nice touch to have a little early American music before dinner as well. Highly recommend the prime rib dinner & Cornish game hen. Both are well cooked & are a large size. Peanut soup is also a must. Hot & tasty! Dinner includes bread and accompaniments. The only complaint was the drinks are very pricey & the bourbon was a very weak pour with lots of ice, not good for the $15 drink cost. Meals are also very pricey; typical of tourist prices. But overall, to experience a historical Williamsburg tavern meal it was great!
