Originally opened by Jane Vobe in 1772, this authentic reproduction public house serves up a transporting experience for the senses in Colonial Williamsburg. Everything is true to the time period at King’s Arms Tavern, from the fashion sported by servers to the pewter candlesticks—all adding to an air of colonial elegance. Inspired by 18th-century recipes, but with updates to suit 21st-century tastes, tuck in to a chophouse menu featuring prime rib, pork chops, and more.

ADA Accessible dining is available in the Purdie Kitchen. Please note this colonial building is separate from King’s Arms Tavern. Please check-in at the front, and our host will escort guests to the Purdie Kitchen.

The taverns are located in the Historic Area, and not on a public street. The Tavern is a short walk from the Tavern Parking lot which is on Francis Street.

It was another magical evening at the Kings Arms. My guest and I both had the roast duck. My wife had the pork shank. Everything was absolutely delicious and our server George made sure everything was perfect including fathoming the bowl when he served the rum punch bowl. We have eaten here so many times over 40 years and it never disappoints.

We have visited Williamsburg multiple times and always dine at one of the taverns. Tonight at Kings Arms Tavern was outstanding! Will definitely repeat this experience.

We had a wonderful time — the combined effect of carefully prepared and delicious food (highly recommend the Cornish hen), excellent service, and a lovely atmosphere (complete with musicians playing for us near the end of our meal). All of this made it worth the wait. We had a reservation but didn’t get seated till nearly an hour past the appointed time — not sure if this was an anomaly, but it would have been good to know ahead of time that this might happen. Nevertheless, we loved it! And we were very happy to have made this a part of our visit to Williamsburg.

We arrived for our 5:15 reservation and were informed there were no tables because the sales team had overbooked. We were told that we could wait and they would insure we had a table by 6:30. None of the other colonial properties had tables available- so we had to choose between waiting or not being able to dine at a Williamsburg property. We had made the reservations many months ago. The staff were aware of this problem for quite some time and neither let us know there was a problem nor offered any alternative. When we finally got a table at 6:40, the food and service were very good. The mismanagement at the property caused us to miss activities we had hoped to do that evening in the colonial area. For all this inconvenience, we were not even offered a discount on our meal. We had been looking forward to this dinner during the holiday season but the experience was not at all what we had hoped for and, in fact, our whole evening was negatively affected.

As per our usual experience, this is a treat for us. We always look forward to the peanut soup as it has always been excellent. This time, there was definitely something missing for the soup. It was a much thinner version and the taste was somewhat different, still good but not as rich tasting and not what we have enjoyed in the past. The entrees and desserts were absolutely amazing.

Food was exceptional and so was the service. We enjoyed it completely. Thank you for a taste of the 1700’s.
