About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Charming
  • Neighbourhood gem
The Kinneuchar Inn is a 17th-century pub and restaurant which champions great food in an intimate setting. We recently were awarded Best Local Restaurant in Scotland 2023 by The Good Food Guide.

We serve a daily changing 'a la carte' menu, based on ingredients sourced from the Balcaskie Estate and a handful of carefully curated partners. Our menus are seasonal and produce-led, aiming to highlight the quality of the ingredients.

Helmed by James Ferguson (formerly of The Connaught and East London eatery Beagle) and partner Alethea Palmer.

A lovely evening spent at the Kinneuchar Inn. As always the food was amazing, an unforgettable culinary experience. The best in the area. Throughout the evening the staff remained attentive, they were knowledgeable about the menu and wine list. The cosy Inn vibe nestled within the village offers a sanctuary from the busy world. It certainly deserves its place within the Michelin Guide.

Last minute decision to go out for lunch today, being a Sunday we knew it would be busy but the service was just great. The food is always just right, whatever we choose and we weren't disappointed. For starters we had Anolini in Peking duck broth with wild garlic and Goat curd with roasted peppers & pangrattato - fantastic! Our mains were Mutton chop and Pan fried Hake with roasted fennel & sea kale. So tasty!! I had Rice pudding with blackberry jam & cocoa nibs for dessert as it simply couldn't be resisted.... Mmmm

Starters and desserts were lovely. Main courses of beef sausage and mutton were not good. Size, appearance and texture of the sausage not pleasant. Mutton was tough and chewy. We expected better choices of main course to be honest. For price it was very disappointing. Also, I felt that being reminded while still eating dessert and drinking coffee that your time on the table is nearly up and needed for the next customer was extremely annoying and spoiled the ambience and atmosphere of our meal. Not very professional. When spending £126 on lunch you should not then feel rushed and pushed out by staff. I noticed other customers also unhappy about this on leaving. Overall we enjoyed our lunch but felt it was pricey and let down by the quality of the main courses and the attitude of certain members of staff. If you have two hours for a booking staff should not be reminding you with 20 minutes to go that you need to leave. Perhaps allow a little more time between bookings to really give customers time to relax and enjoy the setting.

Best Food I’ve had in a long time. If you get a chance to go, you must. The place is a class act from start to finish. From the food, to the service to the decor. 10/10. Would eat here constantly if I could! Looking forward to going back.
