   Had to get my miso butterfish fix at Kuni’s. I normally put in a reservation even when we go early (before 6pm) bcuz you never know when everyone gets the urge to drop in. You can tell all the regulars! Open Table takes credit card with reservation, charge $1 which you get back later. They don’t take reservations over the phone. But it’s easy to do online through their website or Open Table. I guess I should use Open Table app since you can get rewarded for reservations. (Duh I just noticed today) I like eating in the main dining room side which is a little quieter than bar side. Everyone is so nice there… and as soon as you give your order, you start getting your hot miso soup, hot rice, salad, pickled vegetables, water, and beverages (chilled filtered sake in the little blue bottle). Soon after my butterfish arrives! Yum! Service is so fast!!! So we are never waiting long when we’re hungry. Last time my eyes were bigger than my stomach and I ordered sashimi with my butterfish… I couldn’t eat it all, so now I know just to order my miso butterfish (I think still $19) and I walk out FULL with a little rice left in my bowl. Hard to find a nice Japanese restaurant that won’t cost you an arm and leg, great food, awesome service, fast and easy to find. They said sizzling steak is 50% off on Wednesday and they are quite busy on that day. Maybe we will try it out one day. Our golf gang enjoyed it… so close to West Loch.

   Service and quality were on point. Food served right away. Good local food with portions and and taste on par. Relaxing atmosphere and tables are clean despite the splashes from the hot platter meals. We highly recommend eating here when you want the local kine grindz.

   Food is always delicious and staff is courteous and attentive. It’s our go to place after a round of golf!

   The food order was taken and the food was at the table in 5 minutes. We ordered tea but never came to offer a refill. The overall meal was just ok. The miso butter fish was breaded not what I am expecting. It was satisfactory. I probably would not return.

   Ashamed to say, in >25 years we lived on Oahu, we never visited Kuni’s. Now, when we come back to visit family, it is our favorite local style Japanese restaurant. Excellent value, very casual and good food!

   I thought that the food was on point. It reminded me of the Kunis of old. The dressings and sauces which make the Kuni vibes were taking me back to a different era when the times were simple and solid and we took establishments like this for granted.

   From start to finish, making the reservation to paying and leaving the restaurant, service was excellent, the food was exceptional as always and the vibe inside was like eating at home. Relaxed, friendly and not rushed. So glad went for dinner to celebrate a sister’s birthday!

    So glad Sato is there. It has gotten expensive since the owner change but having him there makes all the difference. Serving staff were excellent!
