Located at 699 14th Street on the coveted corner of 14th and G Street NW, La Grande Boucherie is situated on the most high-profile street in Washington D.C., just one block away from the White House. The restaurant is built in elegant and ornamental Art Nouveau style, evoking the sense of optimism from the turn of the 20th century. The brasserie’s menu features both classic and modern French dishes, with focus on the meat program, raw bar and extravagant large-format meats, ideal for sharing and celebrating. Mahogany wood and glass partitions divide the gargantuan space to create intimate dining experiences. These pieces are adorned in gilded accents and uniquely curved arches inspired by the 20th-century Art Nouveau movement of Paris. The main dining room highlights a massive curved bar with a metal top imported from Paris, a signature piece of Boucherie.

Overall a very good restaurant for any and all occasions. It is a good opportunity to get dressed up and have a nice night. Our server felt a little rushed, but it was very busy, and we understood. Overall, he was very kind, and the service was excellent. He even comped our Creme Brulee as it took a long time to receive it. This is an excellent option for a date night, business dinner, or anything of the sort.

Requested a window seat, but once we got there, found out that the balcony is closed for lunch. I wish I was notified when I had made my reservation. We ended up being seated in a corner next to a fridge, which wasn't ideal. Bunch of the best sections of the restaurant were closed off even though no one was there.

Mixed review. Likely a 3.5 star visit. Ambiance great. Beautiful space. Service also very good - they worked as a team to keep us taken care of. Bread delicious Cheese board quite nice French onion soup was great Steak frites, supposed to be a NY strip medium rare was a different cut, maybe a hanger steak or ribeye but thin and medium well. Clearly a different cut than the strip on the adjacent table’s plates. Frites were good. Crème brûlée had to be sent back - consistency of cottage cheese. Meal started off really nice but declined in the second half. Would consider giving them a second chance when we come back to DC.

Dining at La Grande Boucherie was a relaxing and enjoyable experience that delivered both excellent food and a charming ambiance. Ambiance & Atmosphere The restaurant’s old-world charm was immediately captivating. The detailed interior design created a sophisticated yet welcoming setting, making it an ideal place for a cozy yet upscale meal. As the evening progressed, the restaurant started to pick up around 6 PM, but the noise level remained moderate, allowing for easy conversation. Service & Efficiency I made same-day reservations, and the process was quick and easy. The staff were attentive but not intrusive, striking a good balance between service and giving diners space to enjoy their meal. There was one waiter who didn’t speak or understand English and didn’t indicate which language they spoke, but their role was limited to taking our initial water preference, so it wasn’t an issue. Food and seating were surprisingly fast, which was a pleasant surprise. Food & Recommendations I ordered the 12oz NY Strip with greens, and while the presentation was just okay, the taste was excellent. The escargot stood out as a highlight and is something I would definitely recommend. For dessert, the crème brûlée was a great choice—well worth ordering. On a scale of 1 to 10, I’d rate the food a solid 8.5 to 9. Portion sizes were just right for both my companion and me. While I didn’t try any wine or cocktails, the staff appeared to be knowledgeable about pairings for those interested. Value & Final Thoughts Pricing felt standard for French cuisine and reasonable for DC dining. Overall, I would definitely return for the atmosphere, food, and service. I’d recommend La Grande Boucherie for a date night, a meetup with friends, or a special occasion. A great choice if you’re looking for classic French cuisine in an elegant yet comfortable setting!

Unfortunately this place is not worth the money. I've been to the one in New York which is great, but the DC location suffers from horrible service. We waited twenty minutes to place a drink order. My girlfriend is gluten free so requested a specific type of vodka in her drink. One other person ordered the same drink, using the standard vodka, but when they were brought out the server didn't say which was which. He took it back to the bartender and then returned to inform us the drink was made in batches so they couldn't substitute the vodka. So he either didn't tell the bartender the specific order, or the bartender overlooked an allergen and didn't tell the waiter. Then, my girlfriend ordered her steak medium-well, and it came out rarer than mine (I ordered medium rare). Asked to get more fire on it, the floor manager held a candle up to it, as if she was challenging my girlfriend on whether it truly was too rare. She sent it back, and it came back with the toothpick still in it, so the floor manager reached over without asking and shook the steak until it fell off the toothpick. The floor manager was generally not a very pleasant person. Finally, it took us a full thirty minutes to get the bill after we were done eating. It was also my sister's birthday, so they brought her one scoop of ice cream AND CHARGED HER FOR IT. I've never been to place that from start to finish had such poor service. It was not simply slow -- it was BAD.
