   So, I finally made it to La Tapa del Coco. I was expecting the kind of place that serves soul food with a little flair—and they definitely delivered on that. But… let’s be real, not everything was as fabulous as I’d hoped. First, the good stuff. The clams in curry? Holy moly. If I could marry a sauce, I’d put a ring on this one. It’s creamy, spicy, and just everything you want in life. And the codfish croquettes? Perfection. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, with that berry sauce that’s got this magical balance of sweet and spicy. These dishes? Absolutely worth the trip. But then… the burger. Now, I know this burger’s got a reputation. It’s been crowned “the best” at some point, and I can see why—juicy, flavorful, and with that chicharrón making an appearance. It’s like a party in your mouth, but… it’s like the cool kid at the party who doesn’t talk to you much. It’s good, but it doesn’t make you want to shout from the rooftops. Here’s the deal: La Tapa del Coco has so much potential. The food’s got heart, the flavors are on point, and you can tell they’re passionate about their dishes. But for a place that’s ranked in the 100 Best in Latin America? Some of the hits are real home runs, and some are just… okay.    The meal and service were fantastic. Innovative comfort type food. Clams were delicious. The big surprise was the vegan Chinatown dish. La comida y el servicio fueron fantásticos. Tipo de alimentos innovadores confort. Almejas eran deliciosos. La gran sorpresa fue el plato vegano Chinatown.

   Everything looked amazing on the menu. Can't wait to come back soon to try all the other dishes. Friendly service, good food, nice vibe. Highly recommend this for a nice night out.

   Read the 4.9 reviews before booking; not quite the experience of our party of 6. The restaurant called to confirm our reservation 3 hours before dinner; then had no record of our reservation upon arrival. We were seated shortly; but one of our party did not receive her drink order until 30 minutes after placing the order. The food was very good, though the fish croquets were way overdone. Sauces and spreads were very flavorful. Entrees were all at least 4.5/5.0. Service was slow. Pricing, compared to a large U.S. metropolitan area, was great.

   During our first day in Panama, we visited here and had a good experience. The food was good, but what truly stood out was the exceptional service. Our waiter, Juan, was great and recommended all items we tried, while also remembering my food allergies.

   The restaurant is located in the San Francisco area. It is small but very modern with a coveted patio. The bar is outside on the patio. The inside is simple. Love the light fixtures. We started with the ceviche. It was seabass topped with fried octopus. My husband chose the whole fish dish which was seabass (grilled instead of fried) with rice and peas. I had the one pot colonense. It was interesting. Think paella but with a twist: savory with a bit of heat. Overall, great service and good food.
