Since 1931 and revived in 2024, Restaurant Ile de France combines old-world French culinary traditions with contemporary Montreal influences in the heart of Downtown.
Why they're an Icon
Executive chef: Chef Liam Hopkins
From the OpenTable editors: The stunning Art Deco architecture is reason enough to visit this landmark restaurant in Centre Eaton de Montréal, which first opened in 1931. Evenings flow from the elegant cocktail bar to the fine dining restaurant, where diners can indulge in classic fare such as prime beef tenderloin or gnocchi Parisienne while admiring the space’s well-preserved historic features.

The noise level was so high that it was impossible to hold a conversation among our party of three. The occasion being a birthday, it didn’t contribute to a proper celebration.

Disappointed. I thought we'd be dining in the main room, where the restaurant used to be. This is what patrons expect.
The menu items, with the exception of a few, were odd/strange. Too French haut-cuiisine. I ordered baked oysters main. One oyster arrived, tasted horrid, unidentifiable salty sauce! It was replaced by stodgy ham on a bun and salad made of limp pale lettuce and one radish.Service was excellent. High prices for awful food. Won't return.

Wonderful to see the grand dame in all her glory! The menu is well balanced, service and staff are great.
The only thing that I found confusing was the choice of music, it went from Jazz to contemporary to Latin etc.. I wish the music reflected the period of the venue.
Otherwise, it was great.

9e is an elegant yet relaxed restaurant, with excellent servers, very polite and respectful, and beautiful background music from several cultures and time periods. Our meals were simple yet perfectly prepared (an omelette for my friend, and beer-battered cod with greens for me). We celebrated with a glass of prosecco, and shared a wonderful dacquoise, a decadent chocolate cake with a praline outer layer, and rich cream to spoon on the top. A great treat for us both!

I have been awaiting this visit at the 9th floor for ever. I have been there as a child and worked at the Eaton Center when the restaurant was abandoned and saw the changes. That being said, what bothered us is the lack of balance in the experience. First, not eating in the dinning room but outside was a letdown. I get the idea of using the space for corporate events but I think most people were expecting the dining room/high ceiling/art deco etc. Then, the tables are way too close to one another. Despite the very tasteful music and perfect sound level, it’s too close for comfort and we were in the convo of the guests on our sides. Then, we were offered thick fabric napkins but the plates and USTENSILS are put directly on the tables. No table cloth not even a paper square under our dishes. Which to us seemed like a miss: We are trying to elevate the dining experience but not so much. The meal selection is good but the execution was not even. I had the fish with cauliflower cream and brocolettes. I was expecting the delicate taste and meat of the cod but it was way overcoked dry and tasteless. The cauliflower cream was perfection, buttery, smooth and perfectly seasoned. But the brocolettes were SO undercooked, almost raw and the difference in textures with the cream was too intense. I specified I was allergic to chives. Which they did omit in the salad but covered the cauliflower cream with. Chives seems to be their thing as each meal we chose had some on it. The person with me had their deconstructed croque-monsieur and the flavors and textures were AMAZING. The deserts were ok but not to die for. The white chocolate dome is a great choice. Service has its inequality as well. We noted the lack of knowledge of the ingredients and not offering tea or coffee. We had to ask. Same with pepper and salt or other condiments that were not offered. We will try dinner instead of lunch eventually poing for a better experience considering the price tag!!!
