We ordered mains and dessert each. The mains were ok but expensive, considering there is a lot of choice in Edinburgh for grabbing some moule frites. However, we would have been fine if we had not ordered desserts. These were priced at £6.50 each and I will bet my life that they were bought-in frozen because they were strangely uniform and uniformly bad. The lemon meringue tart - barely any lemon and it was like a smear of unidentifiable jam rather than a lemon curd. The pastry case was 100% defrosted and cheap, but the meringue was the worst ever - powdered sugar, piped, and an attempt at giving it some colour failing miserable because, let’s face it, it wasn’t actually meringue or fresh. I’ve been to bad places before but this is particularly unforgivable because it’s meant to be attached to the Institut Francais. No self-respecting French person would own that dessert, never mind eat it. The mille feuille was no better. Crème patissier on the menu was actually frozen-solid manufactured cream product, sandwiched between the doughiest slices of apparent puff pastry. This restaurant makes a mockery of the French and French bistros. Avoid at all costs. Or if you must try, save yourself some money and go to an Iceland instead - their frozen desserts will be better.

The food is very good and the location, on the Royal Mile is excellent. Solid wine stt wine selection also. If anything, a bit too much food in each serving, but I doubt many Brits complain about that.

Restaurant was quiet, and service pleasant. Lunch menu available. Starter was OK but main course (Sea Bream) portion size was disappointingly small, being served one half of a fillet. Potatoes served were as expected, but the vegetable served (two carrots) was also a little underwhelming. Not good value.

Great lunch! Food was excellent and service was superb. What a nice experience. I didn’t expect such a nice restaurant on the Royal Mile. We already booked another reservation during our stay. I would definitely recommend!
