We thought that the cooking was very good, the service was friendly, helpful but unobtrusive. However, given the high prices, the ambience/decor were somewhat basic and the chairs uncomfortable. the star of the performance is undoubtedly the food, with interesting combinations of flavours, very fresh and using local produce.

We enjoyed a sumptuous Sunday lunch at Le Vin Perdu - everything we ordered was a gustatory delight, from the duck egg mayonnaise, and snails with tender chickpeas, to the whole chicken slathered in tarragon sauce accompanied by perfectly crispy potatoes (cooked the way only the French know how to do) and delicious Hispi cabbage. The bottle of Picpoul de Pinet was one of the best picpouls we’ve tasted, and reasonably priced. Somehow we managed to find room for dessert - and I’m very glad we did as the delicately poached rhubarb with creamy bavarois was sublime. I should also mention the exemplary service we received, which was friendly, professional, efficient and very accommodating to our party being a little late for our booking. All in all a very memorable meal, and one we shall definitely repeat when we’re next in Ashburton.

A great compact restaurant with a small but excellent menu suggestion and of course a good wine list. Really great service and superbly cooked classic French food - will definitely visit again.

The menu is short, with an emphasis on quality ingredients and culinary excellence rather than trying to cater for a wide range of tastes. The menu and the ambience of the whole place have a distinctly French feel -- as you might expect from the restaurant's name. We ordered wine by the glass, a non-alcohol cordial fizz, mains and sides only. The fish (black bream) was perfectly if simply cooked and with excellent flavour, complemented by garlicky hispi cabbage (beautifully silky but still retaining a bit of bite) and beautifully roasted potatoes. Staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful, their timing and attentiveness was spot-on.

The food was great. The terrine starter was very, very good. We had pork shoulder from the grill and the lunchtime special which was a kind of pork casserole. Both really tasty. The side of garlicky cabbage was awesome. The wine selection was rather limited (2 reds, 2 whites, an orange and a fizz) and we liked the Pinot best.
