The Lobby Lounge at Fairmont Grand Del Mar has been magnificently reimagined to combine the lavish splendor of Italian palazzos with the natural grandeur of Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve. Indulge in afternoon tea as the San Diego sun casts its golden light through large arched windows, or linger into the evening over inspired tapas, cocktails, and elevated programming under the warm glow of Venetian glass chandeliers.

Take in the beauty of Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve —or while sipping a craft cocktail in the bar. In a specially commissioned mural that spans all four walls, artist Jim Wodark pays homage to the canyon’s most iconic elements: its ancient rocks, cascading waterfall, and distant mountains.

We really enjoyed our afternoon tea at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar! The service is top notch and the spring menu is spectacular! Next time, we won’t sit in the library as the jumbo tv can be a little distracting. Especially, when people request to watch sporting events. I wish the Grand would rope this area off to people only enjoying afternoon tea then reopen to guests after services are over.

The hotel is beautiful. Afternoon tea in the lobby lounge is definitely enjoyable but not so tasty as I remember it being two years ago and the price is very steep. Service was fair, friendly but not especially attentive or timely. Specifically on the food, scones were poorly made and sandwiches were lackluster. They do offer a decent variety of teas and the live piano player was excellent. Overall, we probably won’t return for afternoon tea for a while; maybe Mother’s Day put too much pressure on the kitchen.

The tea was lovely and the ambience in the lobby is nice. They had a huge issue at the valet with lost cars and lonnng waits but that should not deter you from this top notch tea!

Changed up the menu and one thing was better than the next. It was delicious. Walked out of there stuffed and happy. Servers are always amazing, this time was no exception. Got to sit in front of the fire place and would definitely recommend and go back.

Lovely property, friendly and helpful staff. Afternoon tea was delicious!!! I wish I knew it was valet only, so be prepared. Great experience and will be back.

My three friends and I did the Afternoon Tea, and to be honest, it wasn’t anything special compared to the price. The savory bites were quite ordinary, and the taste wasn’t exceptional just a strange mix of beets and beef pâté. The sweets also tasted odd, with some of them even having a perfume like flavor. The selection of tea was good, though, and the service was great, but I wouldn’t recommend this.

Great experience. Food and service were top level. So much better than the Tea at the Del Coronado. The servers took such great care of us. Came by the table and offered to refill our tea pots numerous times. Food was very good and freshly prepared. Looking forward to returning. Highly recommend.
