Before the James Beard Award and the Gourmet Magazine review, Lotus of Siam was a small little hole in the wall located in Commercial Center in Las Vegas. November 1999 was the month Chef Saipin and her husband Bill took over Lotus of Siam. Since then, Thai food became an adventure for those willing to step out of their comfort zones for Asian Cuisine. Chef Saipin’s distinct cooking has been passed down from generation to generation, from both her grandmothers and her husband’s grandmothers. Her northern style cooking has opened America into the “Northern” world of Thailand, away from the Bangkok style of sweet and tang. The northern menu consists of hearty herbs and spices, along with Thai style stews and coconut-less curries. Through her set menus, our guests can dine and enjoy recipes from over 100 years in the Chutima family.

Why they're an Icon

From the OpenTable editors: More than two decades into its run, Lotus of Siam is still a must-book restaurant, thanks to James Beard Award-winning chef Saipin Chutima’s exciting Northern Thai cuisine. Venture off the Strip to feast on dishes like roasted duck curry and drunken noodles in a lively dining room dressed with vibrant murals. Add in exceptional pairings from the award-winning 300-bottle wine list, and it’s easy to see why this Vegas institution is beloved by locals and industry insiders alike.

Whenever we visit Las Vegas, we always stop here for a delicious meal. We had reservation at 6:40pm today (made thru Open Table w/ a holding credit card details a day before), but we showed up around 4:30pm & they were able to accommodate us. Service was still great as usual. However, today the food just dont taste the same / as good anymore. The chu chee duck didnt taste fresh (stale). The crispy garlic prawn were still crunchy, but bland. It used to be tasty & so delectable. The Nua Yang (Nam Tok) was only sour. It used to be tasty/has a combination of sour, salty, a bit sweet & smoky. It’s a big let down for $38! The Rad Na was just meh! We’ve had tastier for way less than $29! The salmon (Laad Nam Plar) had a strong fishy smell, but saved by the tasty green apple salad which made the salmon tolerable. Overall, we’re glad they had a table ready ahead of our reserved time, however we’re really disappointed with the food. Not sure if we’re coming back next time we’re in Las Vegas.

We’ve waited years to dine here. Thai is my favorite cuisine and I’ve eaten at highly rated authentic Thai restaurants all over the country. Overall, Lotus of Siam is really good, I would say top 5. The dishes were flavorful and service was friendly but a little pushy (they asked a couple times about the garlic shrimp, which we declined). We ordered the ribeye with peppercorn dish and the Mom’s highlighted Chee Chu crispy duck on curry. The ribeye dish was amazing but the duck was overcooked and I wish they put it on top of the curry so it stayed crispy longer. I understand the food is top notch and it’s Vegas, but still a bit too pricey for off-the-Strip (including tax and tip, about $100 for 2 dishes and a bowl of rice). There were only two of us and would’ve like to try another dish or two. I would recommend going with a group to try more dishes.

This was the go-to place for me when I am in Vegas. However, the food got worse over the years. It's no longer on the "must visit" list for me.

Always great food. They have different dishes that you can’t find anywhere. The garlic shrimp and the duck curry are the dishes to get.

Good experience overall and our waiter Danny was quite welcoming. One small thing is the food portion was smaller than expected.

Amazing! My second trip there this year. It's some of the best Thai food I have ever had. I had a daily special, lamb chops, with roasted vegetables and peppercorn sauce that was delicious. I could eat a full bowl of the veggies! I also had the upside down pineapple cake for dessert that, despite the rock hard ice cream initially (it softens as it melts) that was a great gooey salty sweet combination. The peanuts were perfect as both salt and crunch. Atmosphere is lovely. It can be loud, is on the pricey side, but quite worth it for Thai.

Haven't eaten here since the roof caved in at the Chinatown location. Food was very good but they were out of two of the three dishes we ordered, so somewhat disappointed. It was totally full on a Tuesday evening, so make reservations!
