We were so excited to try this beautiful new restaurant. The hostesses and decor were fantastic. The cocktails took a while but were great. The staff were friendly and kind, did feel a little over staffed. Unfortunately the food was a big let down. The tonal con tomate was underwhelming (I’ve had better). The leek dish still had tons of dirt or sand in it, spent many minutes trying to get all the grit out of my mouth. The bikini was soggy despite looking crispy due to too much meat and was over truffled. The pork iberico main dish was ok, not worth $52. The pork was missing some extra flavor as the wine sauce was oddly sweet and the “mashed potato’s” were a grey color and gelatinous (not sure how they managed that, was un-pleasant). My partners salmon was good but also lacking some flavor but was a good deal for $26. The dessert was amazing. When we got the bill it felt like adding salt to the wound, over $200 and they didn’t care to remove the leeks from the bill. We were so ready to get out of there we decided not to deal with getting it reviewed. I think their strength is probably the Paella which looked like too much for 2 people to share so we skipped it. We also constantly had to tell the wait staff we didn’t order several dishes they tried to deliver to our table. Some of these issues we hope are due to it being newly opened, but we won’t be back for a while.

I grew up in Barcelona, and have lived in the Bay Area for a long time, and Macarena is the first restaurant that has the authenticity of Spanish food. All the ingredients are very fresh, you can taste the delicate flavors. The service is very attentive, and the atmosphere is incredible. Also, this is the only place I have been that serves Fideuá. I cannot recommend highly enough Macarena!

Despite having reservations it took over 15 min to be seated. The food was OK, but the paella negra was excessively salty. The interior design and the whole space seemed cobbled together.

It’s great to have another restaurant in the area serving real Spanish cuisine. We dined on a variety of tapas and they all were excellent. My biggest complaint is not about the food, it’s about the wine list. There is a lack of reasonably priced wines available to choose from on the wine menu. With the number of very good, and reasonably priced, Spanish wines out there, there’s no reason that there can’t be more affordable wine choices here. We will definitely be back.

The food was good but service was slow, no one came regularly to help refill the wine (we ordered a bottle and they did not put the bottle on the table, instead the server had the bottle so we were expecting reasonably prompt service to refill glasses). So either they seem to be running low on stuff when it’s busy or maybe they need to improve training of staff. I guess this is still initial opening… ok if it’s casual meal but for business meals maybe need to go somewhere else.
