   We had a really friendly, knowledgeable server. Her name was Megan. We loved her. They were out of a couple of things we asked for, one being key lime pie which was on their New Year’s Eve menu. They also were short on help which wasn’t a problem for us because we had nothing else planned… Our dinners were delicious!

   Mallard's is a new restaurant in Bayshore Mall in Glendale. This is my fourth visit and I have had some very good entrees, appetizers, salads, mixed drinks and desserts. Pricing is ok and portions are a little smaller but the ambiance is quite nice. I must say that service, although very friendly & responsive, is a little slow, especially when you order drinks from the bar. With all four visits, the wait time for drinks is close to 10 minutes. Food arrival is appropriate, and servers always check back regularly. The menu selections are not very extensive but at each visit the selections have varied a little. Sadly, on two occasions, they have not been able to serve a thyme-flavored martini that sounds intriguing (and I have yet to try), and last night they were out of a flourless chocolate cake I was looking forward to trying. However, the Key lime pie is really, really good. Our first visit, shortly after Mallard's opened, was during Happy Hour, and the choices were great and very reasonable.

   We arrived for our reservation at 5:30pm, the restaurant was not crowded yet and staffing appeared adequate. Our server approached the table within 5 minutes. He was not very familiar with the menu but guided us to the “dinner for two” special, stating “get all you can” we both ordered the steak. Our drinks were served about 10 min after ordering and then bread service arrived in the next 10 minute. The bread was good and spreads were flavorful, however would have been better if served warm. We enjoyed the bread and waited approximately 15-20 min for our salad/soup. Shortly thereafter, another server appeared at our table with our dinners. We asked to have our salad and soup served first. The server then stated “ I can’t hold this. What do you want me to do?” we mentioned that the proper order of service would be to have our salad and soup prior to the meal. Unfortunately, the server was not willing to do that for us and placed your meals at the table. The serving size was adequate and the steak was cut into strips; we prefer to cut our own. The reduction was flavorful and the steak was mediocre. The potatoes were savory and hot. Our service did stop by to ask how everything was and we stated it was fine. When we finished our meal, we were offered the dessert that came with a special. We had the Keylime pie, which was very delicious. Our opinion is that this restaurant would benefit from staff who are better trained in customer service, appropriate language, and the order of meal service.

   The elote corn fritters is a must try for an appetizer. They come 3 to an order. Our waitress Megan was really good.

   Food and service was outstanding. Can't wait to go back! Definite competition for other southern food restaurants. I would suggest putting an awning over the door at the main entrance instead of backdoor to help people enter the correct door at reception--or put up a sign that entrance is off of the center courtyard. Helpful as a new restaurant.

   Absolutely enjoying experience!!!! It is rare that you get the trifecta for food/hospitality establishments (Great food, accommodating environment and exquisite service). We will definitely put this on our list of favorite places to dine and we recommend it to everyone. We will definitely request Shawn again he is the best server ever!!!!

   Terrible service from start to finish. We reserved a standard table, but were told none were available. So, we agreed to a high top, even though there were several empty standard tables nearby. Waitress took a very long time to show up, simple drinks took 30 minutes to arrive, apps arrived first, but with no plates. Dinner took another hour to arrive, had to ask a few times to get water refills. Just poor all around, won’t be going back.

   I think mallards may be going through new restaurant growing pains. The food was very tasty and there were 6 of us so we ordered a wide variety of items including steak, fish and vegetarian entrees. Cajun fries are yummy too. Drinks were so so. Need to step up cocktail making. What was not great was the service. The hostess was completely rude and unwelcoming. The waitress was sweet but nervous and not familiar with menu items. We will go back and try it again but hoping service will improve.

    I would have given this restaurant a higher rating if it wasn't for the hostess. I've never seen a front-of-the-house employee more poorly suited for their job. We weren't greeted, she never smiled, she sped ahead of us to our table, slapped the menus down on the table without looking back, and walked away from us. A server finally came up to us while we were standing there and confirmed that this was our table and we could be seated. Throughout the meal we were watching the lines build up with customers waiting to be seated while she was nowhere to be found. Normally I recommend additional training when I see issues with an employee. In this case, I would simply terminate the employee. She clearly hates her job.
