Sungchul Shim, chef and owner of the Michelin star restaurant Kochi opens his second Michelin star restaurant Mari in Hell's Kitchen. At Mari (roll in Korean), Sung offers a tasting menu of street-food inspired Korean hand rolls, complemented by an extensive wine list and a selection of Korean spirits like soju and chungju.

Mari is offering a $145 per person seasonal tasting menu (along with a beverage pairing for $110) that explores the many facets of Korean cuisine through small plates and inventive hand rolls.

Due to the nature of our tasting menu, we are unable to accommodate vegetarian/vegan diets, gluten-free diets (if soy is not okay to consume), rice-free diets, allergies to fish, allium, sesame seeds/oil, and aversion to raw seafood. If you have any questions regarding food restrictions, please contact us before making a reservation.

    Very delicious, very special experience at Mari last night. It was relatively early on a weeknight; the calmer, cosier vibe was perfect for us. It was my son's first tasting menu experience ever, and a perfect entry into this kind of dining. We sat at the chef's counter, and the focus and dedication was a delight to witness through the meal. The staff and chefs were affable, seemingly very easy-going as they went about their careful work. The pacing was excellent - never felt like we were waiting too long before the next creation was placed in front of us. Every course was a banger for me... I was transported by the taste, texture, temperature and the beautiful, functional table arrangement. We each had our favourite courses, naturally, but overall the Korean-inspired menu was right down our alley. We added the chef's special of A5 wagyu, and were glad we did it. I also shared the chef's special mari of geoduck and caviar with my son, and while it was delicious, I don't know if it transcended the other mari on the tasting menu. Definitely recommend this experience, especially for people who love seafood and Korean cuisine.

    An incredible tasting menu with incredible service. The egg and caviar dish was out of this world. I highly recommend the wine pairing as well.

    Composition, flavors and freshness of food was the best. Took 30 minutes from seat time to arrival of first course but after that everything course proceeded efficiently. Cocktails were wonderfully complex. One of the broths was very salty. Will definitely be back (with friends)!

    We had a fantastic experience. The quality and creativity of the dishes was great, loved the fusion elements in the tasting menu. The quality of the cocktails and the wine pairing was of the highest level. The Chef and his staff provided outstanding service. I definitely recommend this dining experience.

    Dinner at Mari was (again) exceptional. Amazing food and great staff. It's a good value for the quality. The wine pairing is ok, but I'd say that it is a bit overpriced for the wines you get. Maybe get a cocktail (they have really good ones!) or a bottle of champagne or a nice white wine to go along the amazing tasting menu.

    The gap between courses was mind-numbingly long. One small piece of food would be delivered with 10-15 minutes between. Our meal took two hours and 40 minutes. The food isn’t bad, but it isn’t worth the waiting either. Plus the setting is very close to adjacent tables, so conversation with ones party isn’t very comfortable. I suggest lying and saying you have a show to catch even if you don’t. I’m glad to have tried it, but it is one and done for me.

    Mari is one of the best restaurants in Hell's Kitchen. We're lucky to have such a place in the neighborhood. Their team is super kind and attentive. The food is delicious and paced super well. While you'll leave full, you won't feed uncomfortable. If you can't get into Mari, you should check out Kochi or Don Don. When Gui Steakhouse and Hwaro open, I'm sure it won't be long for those to get the recognition they deserve as well
