   Made reservation to celebrate birthday, and made that clear in reservation notes. Confirmed reservation day of via telephone. Staff person asked if we are celebrating anything and i confirmed that we are celebrating birthday. Staff person said ,oh I see that in the notes and promised they would make sure to provide special desert with birthday candles. After dinner I ordered desert but staff totally dropped the ball and nothing was done to help us celebrate birthday. I went to the men's room and the hand towel dispensers were totally empty and no air dryers. Witnessed customers shaking their wet dripping hands as they walked by other dinners tables. Disgusting. Super expensive for in consistent spotty service. Did not meet expectations.

   Disappointed with service and internal operations of the restaurant. My expectations of Mastros would be to provide an outstanding dining experience in every way. There are so many restaurants to choose from in San Francisco with spectacular service, ambiance and food.... so I would recommend choosing another place for a high-end dinner outing. Two cocktails each at the bar for two guests without anyone following up should not be the norm for a nice dinner establishment. Table for six reserved ahead of time with a written notation that dinner would be a pre-theater event. Arrived at the restaurant and no one told the front host. Went to the second floor and met friends and sat down. No one came to our table to greet us or to take drink orders. I went to the 2nd floor host and informed that dinner was for pre-theater dining. Waitress arrived, she was not informed that we had a time schedule to keep. Things were fine and we finished dinner and were ready to go on to the theater. We were unable to pay and get out to go to our show. It took half an hour just to have them run our credit card. Very stressful and bad way to end dinner. I will not return. A restaurant deemed a certain caliber should do much better. Food is tasty though.

   It was my 18th Anniversary and Anthony (our server) was sure that I would have a good time, he did it not only well but it was the best thanks to him. Thank you Anthony for your professionalism and sympathy

   Mastros has a really gone downhill . The food was terrible and took forever to come out.

   We chose Mastro’s for its great location, while looking for a date night. The arrival staff were welcoming and bar service was great while we waited a few minutes for our table. To be clear: nothing was a huge problem but all of the small letdowns we encountered combined to leave us underwhelmed, considering the higher level of service and produce this price point implies. We waited ~10 minutes for our server after being seated. The server seemed flustered and distracted, but was kind enough. She forgot my husband’s drink on two occasions, later explaining it was hard to “find” him a beer. Bread was good, cocktails were strong. Appetizer plates were still on our table when our entrees arrived. One of our scallops was severely undercooked and inedible and our medium-rare ribeye was still bleeding at the table. We sent it back to be cooked a little more and it returned warmer but basically the same. The lobster tail special was tasty but rubbery. Garlic mash and creamed spinach were excellent. We decided to leave while still waiting on a second drink for my husband and the server seemed irritated when she finally “located” the beer only to be asked for the check. Overall the evening was disappointing, the sides were thankfully delicious, but we wanted to leave earlier than we would have if the service and food were up to the standards suggested by the prices.

   Food was great and a very nice atmosphere. We picked last minute as it was late and we did not have dinner plans. It was worth it as the food was very good.

   Really awful service. Was seated and was left alone for 10-15 min. No water, no waitress, nothing. She finally came over, we ordered drinks and food. Bread didn’t come for about an hr. Appetizers came way before our wine. Then we sat there and waited for food for quite a while. Didn’t get bread until we had a manager check on us along w the other drinks we ordered. Our entree was missing a 12oz steak. It was extremely busy and all the tables around us were served promptly . Was very frustrating night

    Our server was really really wonderful. The food was great as I would’ve expected. The ambience is good a little bit Vegas lake but all in all a really nice spot to have in Union Square. Also, the martinis were outstanding!
