Masuya Restaurant is located in a building, which has been designated as a cultural asset, on O’Connell Street in Sydney. This is the same place as the office of Kanematsu Gosho, the pioneer of Australia – Japan trades, was situated in 1980. Masuya Restaurant opened in 1993, then full renovation was implemented in 2006.

The approx. five meters long sushi counter, designed by architect Robert Toland in ‘kabuki red’ with an idea of the stage of kabuki, has since fascinated not only local Australian customers but also various people with different backgrounds.

A showcase displays more than 20 different sushi ingredients everyday including locally produced fish, which is purchased on the day. Other carefully selected ingredients are wagyu beef, free-range pork, and seasonal vegetables. Specially designed tableware of Malcolm Greenwood and tables made of Tasmanian Oak is also creating a great atmosphere. Enjoy your time in this amazing space of hospitality.

    we ordered a Sashimi boat, but the oysters didnt taste fresh most disappointing is the Sushi rolls, the rice is definitely not sushi rice, tasted overcooked...really the worst sushi we ever had in a Jap restaurant Ordered Karrage CK, tasted so rough Even the Free Range Pork Loin, didnt taste very tender or juicy.. disappointing experience

    Sean who served our table was exceptional. Both Aussie & Japanese enjoyed his company. He's very friendly & exceptional. He did above & beyond for our requests. Food was amazing & I felt like I was in Japan!

    The food was outstanding but the service and ambience let it down. We waited a long time once seated at our table to be offered a drink. We were right by the bar so it was busy and bright. Tables situated further into the restaurant had nicer lighting and tealights. Our food started to arrive before we received our drinks. I had to remind them and the staff were very apologetic. The food also arrived randomly or not at all! The food made up for the short falls and it was incredible value for the quality of the food.
