   My table tried the queso, shrimp tacos, crab enchiladas, and cheese enchiladas. The food was okay. I’ve had worse and I’ve had better. The ambiance is good. It’s a very pretty restaurant with appropriate lighting. Next time I’m going to order drinks and apps and see if I like those better.

   Food, service, and decor were all great! Our server was excellent. The host was okay and the manager didn’t answer when I called so I left a voicemail but he hasn’t returned my call. Because the server said they do separate checks I would like to make a reservation for 12 in a couple weeks. Little noisy where they sat everyone together but we could still hear each other.

   We had a reservation ahead of time, unfortunately upon arrival it took about 30 minutes to be seated. Once brought, our table was cramped between other tables. We also did not have any chairs at first. Luckily the host relocated us. We ordered the margarita flight, the machete, an old fashioned, a watermelon agua Fresca, and a sugar skull hot cocoa. Yummy drinks, but not alcohol forward. 7/10. For food we got the queso blanco, carne asada tacos, barasas chicken, and angus ribeye. The food was pretty good, but it took a long time to come out honestly. It took about more than 30 minutes. Which wouldn’t be a bother, but the parking time was running, and was fixing to end. Overall great service, just a bit slow.

   After seeing countless videos promoting this business on social media. I decided to treat my partner out to dinner. I had a reservations for 7PM for two and weren’t seated until about 7:20-7:25. That was fine given that it was pretty windy and chilly outside and half the seating is an outdoor patio. Once we were seated our server came and took our order for our beverages and our drinks came out promptly. We then ordered our entrees. The food and drinks were exceptional and very delicious. The only downside of our experience was that our server was not that very attentive until after we had already gotten everything we needed. Another note is that this is a cashless establishment, and when you go pay, it is with the server on their Square tablet.

   Made a reservation here for my birthday. Reservation was at 7:30 and we didn’t get seated until 7:50 despite there being a number of empty tables. Once seated we maybe saw our waitress 3-4 times the whole night. I asked for more tortillas and finished my food before they ever came out. When the waitress saw she didn’t apologize but instead asked “should I just cancel the tortillas then?” We had to ask for refills on water and even for silverware. The food was great but the service ruined the entire night.

   Waiting an extra 25 minutes after our reservation, the hostess told us to wait for a text that the table was ready. Got the text, went back to the stand, only to be told that our table still wasn’t ready. Called for a manager who went to check on the tables upstairs. I followed up afterwards to see what was going on. To see not one but two tables ready upstairs. The waiter wasn’t friendly and seemed rushed/rushing us. Brought out chips no salsa and asked if we were ready to order in 15 minutes after being sat. Had request sides that came with our meals (tortillas). Overall there wasn’t any hospitality from anyone that worked there, it was loud and EXTREMELY dark but the food and drinks were good. It just seemed very unorganized. From the way they communicated with each other and to the guests.

   After much anticipation, we were disappointed by our experience at Mexican Sugar. We were seated pretty quickly after our arrival. Our server was Alexis and he did great! Unfortunately outside of the chips, all of our food was cold. Everything. For apps we ordered the Queso Blanco and the Arepas. Both had the potential of being good but it was hard to get past the fact that they were cold as if they were taken right out of the refrigerator. Same with most of the entrees. My husband ordered the Barbacoa tacos and a roasted chicken enchilada a la carte. He only took a few bites of his food because of the temp. Cold rice and beans no thank you. I ordered the salmon which was seasoned well and was warm compared to all of our other food. The drinks were decent. All in all, our high hopes were quickly let down. The staff was great but something was definitely up with the kitchen.
