   After much anticipation, we were disappointed by our experience at Mexican Sugar. We were seated pretty quickly after our arrival. Our server was Alexis and he did great! Unfortunately outside of the chips, all of our food was cold. Everything. For apps we ordered the Queso Blanco and the Arepas. Both had the potential of being good but it was hard to get past the fact that they were cold as if they were taken right out of the refrigerator. Same with most of the entrees. My husband ordered the Barbacoa tacos and a roasted chicken enchilada a la carte. He only took a few bites of his food because of the temp. Cold rice and beans no thank you. I ordered the salmon which was seasoned well and was warm compared to all of our other food. The drinks were decent. All in all, our high hopes were quickly let down. The staff was great but something was definitely up with the kitchen.

   Food and drinks were good. Our waiter was very nice. He was very knowledgeable about menu items and gave us great recommendations on food and drinks. However, overall the service was slow. It took over 30mins to get our drinks & food. We were also seated by the door/stairs and experienced a lot of traffic from people which disturbed our date night.

   Waited over an hour for our food. Food arrived cold. I ordered filet and lobster fajita and it arrived cold! The waitress was slightly rude and kept reaching over us. I had reservations and still waited 15 minutes for my table

   I recently visited Mexican Sugar and had a mixed experience. The check-in process was smooth and efficient, with two staff members ready to assist. Our server, Thomas, was friendly and welcoming, making sure we didn't over-order as newcomers. The highlight of our meal was the carne asada fajitas, which were flavorful and cooked to perfection. The chips and salsa were great—the chips were warm and salty to our liking, and the salsa was not cold but had a smoky chipotle flavor. The ceviche was good too, fresh and nothing to complain about. However, the paella was a disappointment. Two out of six mussels were clearly bad, leaving a lingering off-taste in our mouths. We addressed this with Thomas, and he said he would let the kitchen and his manager know. Hopefully, the next customer does not experience this issue. If we hadn't encountered this problem, I would probably give my rating a 4 or 5. The ambiance was nice but quite dark, making it difficult to read the menu without using our phones, just like other patrons. Overall, while the service and some dishes were commendable, the issue with the mussels in the paella significantly affected our dining experience. I hope this can be addressed for future patrons.

   Staff never smiled. Looked like they hated being there and it made the experience lackluster. Food was good and the prices are reasonable. Not sure if we will be going back because of the vibe of the staff.

   Our first time at Mexican Sugar. We made a reservation, because we heard it was a hot spot. The food was excellent and we will definitely be coming back. Our severs name was David and he was so very attentive & made great suggestions. We highly recommend this spot for drinks and\or food. You won’t be disappointed.

    Dark, loud, uncomfortable seating, way below average food taste, slow service from waiter and just a waste of carbs! Lol. I will personally never go back. Too many good restaurants to choose from in Houston to waste time and money at this one. We were seated quick enough even though it was Valentine’s Day. It was just the rest of what I mentioned that sucked! Which is pretty much everything.
