I problem was, we booked a table and drove an hour to get there and it was closed due to tiles being blown of the roof. I understand that is unavoidable but they obviously didn’t link up to their website as it had been closed for a few days but still let us book a table and travel all that way. Very disappointed

Booked a table on-line and was immediately taken to our table with a great view of the Warrior and harbour entrance. Unfortunately it then went downhill. Slow to take our order and eventually brought two lattes instead of lagers. Instead of two fish & chips and one Christmas Special it was one fish and two specials. This was corrected after a wait. Personally I would prefer china plates to wooden platters for fish but I suppose its considered "trendy". I suppose we were lucky to get our two espressos in cups as there were no saucers or spoons and we had to ask for sugar. This was brought but still with no spoons. Most of the time the waiters studiously paid us no attention. To cap it all the bill was completely mixed up. I know it was the Victorian Christmas Festival weekend but I don't think that justifies poor service.

I will use this restaurant again. Generally pleased but bit disappointed as dinners were not very hot or inconsistent. Is hot fish but cold chips. 5 of us had the roasts which were nice but potatoes hot and vegetables luke warm.

Unfortunately despite a lovely waitress the food was disappointing. Steak Frites stone cold. It’s a shame as there is so much potential, great location but not enough to compensate for poor food

We visit Portsmouth frequently. Our last lunch in the Boathouse was in January - the place was full, the ambience jolly and staff busy yet still attentive. The menu was limited but very inspiring - our choices were delicious, well presented and received surprisingly quickly considering tables were either full or rotating with new customers. We attended last week. There was hardly any customers there. As we were seated, the table behind had complained of the time taken to receive their order, an offer of complimentary drinks was declined and they asked for further reduction on their bill). Within two minutes the adjoining table sent one of their drinks back (cloudy beer). The waitress came to us, took our drinks order, and returned very quickly with them. The menu was a shadow of it's former self. Our starter was bread and olive oil with balsamic - it arrived on a board - boring, flavourless, cold and without plates. A few herbs on top and five mins in the oven may have given it life. Our mains took fifty minutes to arrive (chicken caesar salad and lamb kofta) exceptionally long considering so few customers. To be fair, I was felt more unwell and went outside for fresh air. I phoned my wife, asked her to pay and leave as I was becoming quite unwell. I cannot comment on my meal as I didn't eat any of it. My wife said there was no chicken in her chicken salad!! I have no idea if the owning company has changed, whether the chef was absent or other staff were covering in the kitchen. The previous visit was faultless and this was dire in comparison.

Our second time at this venue. One of the party had special dietary requirements which were noted on booking and were acted upon on arrival. The food arrived promptly and was enjoyed by all 4 in the party, the service was affable and our recommendation to our fellow diners was justified.

We tried this restaurant as it advertised it offered dietary options. My companion is dairy and egg free but does eat meat They adapted the vegan burger option to replace the vegan burger with a beef one and checked that the guacamole and tostada starter was dairy free for us. The food was hot and tasty and the portion sizes generous. We will definitely visit again
