Honoring Chef Miki Izumisawa, the female, award-winning sushi artist, originally trained by the one and only Nobu Matsuhisa. Miki was inspired by nature to create unique nigiri, cut rolls and hand rolls that blur the line between art and fusion sushi. Miki's recipes transform elements of the natural world with names such as Lava Flow, Moon and Sun, Feather in the Sky, and Prairie. Before her passing, Miki carefully coached outstanding female-only sushi chefs to execute her masterpieces. Her legacy continues in this romantic styled coastal, intimate sushi bar and cozy 18 window seats with views of Laguna's main beach. Owners Chris Olsen and Greg Washer are longtime locals who appreciate what Miki did for this community with an outstanding Japanese experience pushing the boundaries of tradition. Reservations recommended!

    The restaurant is so cool but seating is uncomfortable - stools with no backs - small space - tight - the food is delicious but pricey.

    The food, as always, was delicious. The staff were very pleasant and inviting. The menu has all of Miki’s favorite dishes, in which I happily indulged and tasted as if Miki herself had prepared them. A picture of Miki hangs on the wall paying homage to her legacy as she “watches” over her baby. The new owners did a beautiful job remodeling and keeping the spirit of Miki, an amazing sushi chef, alive!

    I’m actually hesitant to write a review because I loved this place so much that I don’t want it to become impossible to get a reservation! However, here I am because I want to share what a great experience we had. We are Laguna Beach locals, but I had never visited this restaurant when it was 242. I only heard about it recently when Chris Olsen and his business partner took it over. Every dish that my husband and I tried was delicious, and the service was also excellent. I love the cozy and intimate dining room. This is my new favorite restaurant.

    It’s the best sushi place in the world . Puts all others to shame. I have eaten all around the world including Tokyo. Nothing close to Miki’s

    Amazing in all ways. Unique sushi with special sauces. Throughly enjoyed! Helpful wait staff in selecting and describing taste profile. Will be back. Reservations a must!

    Love the "From the Archives" menu board. The Sexy Roll is like no other. BUT also dream about PG, Laguna Canyon and so many more. Every time we leave, I can't wait until the next time.

    Truly a fantastic experience. Miki is divine. The sushi is artful, the service is warm and personable, and the ambiance is modern yet soothing. Even the playlist was perfection.
