   We visited Mister Charles for a birthday celebration (party of 4) and found the experience a mixed bag. Ambiance: The dining area was far too dark, even with two small table lights. The music volume fluctuated between songs, sometimes jarringly loud, and the eclectic mix of styles and tempos didn’t create a cohesive vibe for dining versus a ‘bar’ experience. Service: While polite, the service felt distant and unengaged. We noticed several staff members standing near the kitchen, idle and preoccupied with their phones. Surprisingly, no one checked in to see if we were enjoying the food or if it was prepared to our liking. Food: The Ossetra Caviar and Egg Salad on Toasted Brioche was a standout, as were the Corn and Truffle Beignets. The Little Gem Caesar was good, though trimming more of the stalk would elevate it. However, the Whole Dover Sole with Lobster Beurre Blanc was a major disappointment. At $105, the fish was overcooked and dry, with scant lobster in the beurre blanc. The presentation was lacking — fillets (browned on both sides) were hastily scooped out of the pan with a spoon rather than properly deboned tableside. Other mains were a mix of highs and lows: The Texas Wagyu Short Rib Wellington, while flavorful, was difficult to cut even with a Laguiole steak knife. The 8oz. Painted Hills Filet Mignon was well-cooked and delicious. The Fusilli and Caviar pasta was enjoyable but not outstanding. The Passionfruit Entremet dessert was lovely, but the cocktails were unremarkable. One advertised specialty cocktail was unavailable because the bar lacked lime sherbet—a detail that could have been easily resolved with a quick walk around the corner to Trader Joe’s. Overall: While there were moments of distinction in the food, the experience didn’t live up to the Michelin-starred hype or the high price point. For a special occasion, there are many other dining options in Dallas that offer a more memorable experience.

   Overall Mister Charles is a great restaurant. This is our third time to dine there, but not our best. We were seated in a balcony area (not our request) and the vibe was completely different than when seated in the main dining room (near the open kitchen). We had outstanding service and the food was mostly excellent (my wife’s chicken dish was the exception). The overall expectation for us is higher than what was delivered tonight.

   Everything was delicious from appetizers to desserts. What stood out last night was the attentive services from staff. Can’t thank the staff enough for making a wonderful birthday celebration dinner last night!

   We sat at the bar and had beef carpaccio , beat salad and crab cakes. Edgar was amazing , kind and professional. He made the best martinis and we thoroughly enjoyed the chocolate cake for my birthday. Thank you Edgar for making my birthday experience so positive and lovely. Great restaurant.     Food and drinks were delicious, service was timely and knowledgeable. Staff was patient as we stayed until close to catch up with friends. 10/10 recommend and will return.
