   I found modern ocean in a search for the best fish and seafood restaurants in Calgary. We were very impressed with the range of selection on the menu. We both ordered fish (king salmon and black cod). Both were made perfectly - not overly cooked which is most important for fish. The quality of the fish was excellent and the flavours were delicious. The sauces did not overwhelm the fish. We ordered two sides mushrooms and mashed potatoes which were also excellent. The one feedback I have is that there was not enough greens available as sides. They had Brussels sprouts but you need more delicate greens with fish. Would have been nice to have asparagus, spinach or broccolini. We also ordered the beet and goat cheese salad which was also lovely and very tasty. The atmosphere was great. Nice large booths and not too crowded. Lighting was optimal. Not too dark and not too bright. The noise level was a bit loud but it was mostly one or two people who just had exceptionally loud voices which echoed. All in all we were extremely impressed with the food and would recommend this place to anyone looking for fish or seafood. To us the prices were reasonably for a high quality fish or seafood meal.

   Our food server and bartender were terrific as well were the hosts that seated us! Unfortunately the food value was disappointing $5.50 for an oyster? $15 for fries and 24.50 for a small portion of beef tartar? There’s a reason why people are deciding to stay home.

We understand that food value is an important factor when dining out and we strive to provide the best quality dishes at reasonable prices. Our prices reflect the quality that we use versus other restaurants. It wasn't just an Oyster it was a premium East Coast oyster, It wasn't just Fries, it was Truffle, Parmesan Fries... Don't get us started n the prices of beef! We're all going thru it. At the same time, we are happy to hear that you enjoyed the service provided by our staff, it's always wonderful to receive positive feedback about our team. We hope you will give us another chance in the future to show you a memorable dining experience.

   Being forced to pay a 20% tip for terrible service is wrong. The place was almost empty and we had to ask the manager if we actually had a server. Seems she was too busy chatting with coworkers in the corner to even greet us. We waited so long for drinks once ordered and we were literally beside the bar. We also waited super long between our appetizers and our dinner. This was a bucket list place for my 81 year old mother and we were so sadly disappointed. The food was mediocre, steaks undercooked and bland. Although, it’s true, they have the absolute best Brussels sprouts around and the deep fried cheese was delicious. I’ve been told the Stephen Avenue location is far superior so maybe this one could learn a few things from them. Hope others have a better experience for the amount of money you pay.

   We went for our sons birthday dinner and it was amazing. The service (I believe our server’s name was Madi) was prompt, professional and engaging. She had great recommendations and suggestions. The food was plentiful, full of flavour, and high quality. Was a perfect birthday experience.

    Whats not to love about this place? They love steak and it shows. Hailey was our server and she provided great service anticipating our needs throughout the meal. We came later in the evening and it was getting less and less busy. Food came out hot and delicious. be sure to try the wagyu dumplings and and steak on the menu will be incredible. Shout out to Wes as well for his hospitality. 5 Stars for food and service.
