Located in San Francisco’s Design District, Niku Steakhouse is a meat-focused restaurant, highlighting an in-house dry aging program, exclusive cuts of coveted Japanese A5 wagyu with an emphasis on wood fired cooking.

Niku, by the Omakase Restaurant Group, hosts a dining room oriented around a roaring custom binchotan charcoal and wood-fired grill, where guests watch as Executive Chef Dustin Falcon (Lazy Bear, The French Laundry) and his team prepare steaks to perfection. At Niku, there is a true marriage of American and Japanese sensibilities. Falcon’s cooking is driven by the terroir of Northern California — which finds its way onto the menu through foraged ingredients and products from local farmers — met with the highest quality domestic and A5 Japanese Beef.

From the OpenTable editors: Packed since it opened its gilded door in 2019, this swanky steakhouse is the spot for prime Japanese and American Wagyu, dry-aged at the next-door butchery. Grab a seat at the 18-seat chef’s counter to watch Dustin Falcon (of Lazy Bear and French Laundry fame) throw down the tomahawk steaks and crispy pig ears that helped the one-of-a-kind restaurant earn one MICHELIN star.

I could have given a better rating, but, my personal meal was horrible, and I got very sick 5 hours after eating there. There were 4 of us, and everyone elses meal was fine. I ordered the shoet ribs. They were over salted, over charred, and a greasy mess. I didn't know what to expect, maybe this was the way it was suppose to be. The meat itself was really fatty. I wish I had them take it back, I didn't know I'd get so sick eating it,. Plus ruining everyone elses meal by delaying mine, etc. I do have to say the crunchy pig ears were great. I might go back there for them, not sure I'd go back for a meal.

Exceptional Dinner at Niku Steakhouse Niku Steakhouse exceeded all expectations. The staff’s incredible service made us feel like VIPs. The ambience was top-notch—beautiful decor with a view into the kitchen added a special touch. We started with the wagyu charcuterie, which was melt-in-your-mouth amazing. Cocktails were fresh and creative, and the wine was stellar. The 6oz filets were cooked and seasoned perfectly—easily some of the best steaks I’ve had. It was my wife’s birthday, and they surprised her with sweets and port wine, which made the evening unforgettable. The Japanese sweet potato cake for dessert was the perfect finish. This is hands-down one of San Francisco’s best dining spots. Highly recommend it and will definitely be back.

Service met expectations. Food over salted and over seasoned. Walked out with high blood pressure and salt burned tongue. Tbh, I’m not sure how they have a Michelin star, only explanation is, they paid for it. I would not recommend this place to family and friends.

Absolutely amazing! Sit at the counter if you can and watch the brilliant chefs at work. The appetizers, sides, and of course the steaks are out of this world. The service was impeccable. Whenever I find myself back in SF again, this is the first place I will be going to.

Wonderful service from the bar team to the main dining room. Appreciate the guidance on what to order to have a balanced meal. We got lucky and got to sit in the middle center of the chefs bar counter!
