Come eat & talk story while dining on our delicious assortment of Fresh Sushi, Juicy Steak, and Delicious Cocktails.

Oao at Wailea is NOT a BYOB establishment. Wine & Sake are ok to bring but bear in mind that we charge a $35 Corkage Fee per bottle brought.

Large menu and with plenty of speciality roll options. Yes, pricey but you get what you pay for! The rolls are loaded and topped with fish and goodies. Service is always great and food usually comes out very quickly. A must for sushi lovers! They have an exact dupe for the Nobu yellowtail dish as their “Hamachi carpaccio” this is a must get. The firecracker roll as well!

                                                                                                                some of the food was great, some average, but at eye-watering, astronomical prices-- I guess in keeping with its location in Wailea where folks can afford a handful of calamari for 20 dollars or an average sized dragon roll for 32 dollars, an ounce of wagyu for 30 dollars with minimum 4 oz per order... otherwise, service is a bit spotty due to the fact it's always packed and they push the tables through (you won't be there longer than an hour, guaranteed) and the noise level like all places nowadays is crazy loud...

                                                                                                                Amazing food, cocktails and service - best cocktails and service from our trip to Maui. We had a wonderful dinner at Oao. All the wait staff were friendly and attentive, providing good suggestions on food which arrived rapidly. The sushi fusion provided fresh taste elements which we all enjoyed. The fish was extremely fresh and we particularly enjoyed the local island fish - big eyed tuna, amberjack and amaebi. The Pele’s tears cocktail was voted best of trip, and my husband who is a very picky old fashioned drinker loved the Oao version with Japanese whiskey. We finished with a refreshing matcha panna cotta and ube pot de crème - both of which were big hits. I would highly recommend this restaurant and we will definitely be back.

                                                                                                                We snagged a coveted reservation at Oao on a Saturday night. As the hostess brought us to our table behind the front door, she said that adjacent tables were large parties and going to be noisy. We were moved to a corner table behind the sushi bar. Took the waitress 10 minutes to come over as she was tending to the large parties. Ordered drinks and waited another 15 minutes...yup tending to the large parties who were vulgarly loud. I decided to go to the restroom while waiting...it was outside behind the restaurant. Food arrived, a decent looking platter of sashimi. However, after having eaten at Japanego at the Hyatt, standards were high. There was something off with the sashimi. The tako was mealy, and other items tasted watery as if they weren't properly defrosted or not fresh. My $4 cup of tea was weak. They add a service charge for the kitchen to the bill and tax on it. All in all, it was a very expensive bad experience.
