About this restaurant

  • Charming
  • Good for special occasions
  • Neighbourhood gem
Situated in a glass conservatory overlooking the River Walk, Ocho serves breakfast, lunch, dinner and late-night snacks indoors and on our breezeway. Ocho has created a menu rooted in the hotel’s pan-Latin cultural influences from Mexico, Cuba and Texas. The cocktail menu highlights the tequila of the hotel’s San Antonio roots with the rum of its Cuban namesake, with a love for old school recipes and, when the occasion calls, the simple satisfaction an ice cold Michelada. Ocho offers complimentary wifi and serves Stumptown espresso drinks to stay or take away.

Service was terrible and just slow. It just seems as though the kitchen couldn’t get dishes spit. Forget about ordering cocktails. We had 6 people and waited 20 mins for the cocktails. We were finished with our ceviche, queso and hummus appetizer before our drinks came out, so we switched to wine. We finished the 1st bottle and really wanted our entrees. By the t8me they arrived, half the dishes were just warm. The chicken was drily and the short rib had lost all of its heat. So it was just cold meat on a bone. The server only came to us to push another bottle of wine. However, The room was lovely. But it was Saturday night and the place was empty. Perhaps the locals already know about the service, but what a great location and majestic little space. When we left the restaurant through the back door at 8:30, the chefs were just outside smoking. And I wondered do they even care that we have to walk through the dense smell of cigarettes to get to our parked car?

This restaurant is located inside a hotel, which was very convenient for me as I was looking for something close to where I was staying. I didn’t want to be in the area with a heavier tourist and foot traffic presence, so it was perfect for what I was looking for. It’s about two blocks behind the Intercontinental.

Food and drinks were all amazing. The queso with Chorizo so and the corn tortillas were so delicious. Even more Perfect with a dollop of their guacamole and pickled onions. We were already pretty full from all the appetizers as we also had to try their banana bread! BUT The pork, Carnitas with rice and black beans and plantains was the most yummy dish! We also ordered the plantain cakes, which were pancakes and the concha French toast. We had to get to go boxes but totally worth it to be able to try all of the dishes that we did. And their coffee was amazing as well. Will definitely come back.
