This is hardly the New York Deli experience I expected. In fact, Mark and Mike’s isn’t even a delicatessen at all. What decent deli serves fried chicken for lunch but no corned beef? They do offer a greasy pastrami and Swiss cheese sandwich on stale rye bread plus latkes the size and consistency of hockey pucks, but that’s it. After eating lunch at Mark and Mike’s, the only thing that seems to work at thethis restaurant is their advertising campaign. What San Francisco really needs is is a true NY style deli. With such a limited menu Mark and Mike’s tries to be innovative but fails. Don’t be sucked in by their marketing. You’ll be sorely disappointed.

This review is for the Thanksgiving fixed price dinner only. On arrival the reception staff seemed overwhelmed and the place was rather chaotic. I was eventually shown to a seat at the chef’s counter which I was excited for. Thankfully I got a show with my meal because everything went downhill from there. It took nearly 30 minutes for myself and the guy sitting next to me (who I didn’t know) to be greeted by our server or even brought water. When my amuse bouche course came out 20 minutes after that my glass of champagne was given to the guy next to me. Salad came 20 minutes after, with the main course following another 20 minutes after that. The plate from each previous course was never cleared away until well after the next one arrived. The entire time our server rarely, if ever, stopped by to check on us. When she stopped by with the check, she out of the blue asked the guy I was sitting next to if he was American… which was odd because he didn’t have any sort of accent whatsoever. Once he left I was the only paying customer left on the counter which let me overhear the management brag about how this would be their biggest take ever for the holiday. Waiting for my check took a further 15 minutes, and my server didn’t come back to get my credit card for another 15… at which point she made a big show out of stating that the tip was not included and that I should be tipping her at least 25%. My card took another 10 minutes to come back to me. In all… my Thanksgiving dinner took nearly 3 hours from the time I walked in until the time I left the table. I witnessed servers running around like mad the entire time. They were clearly understaffed and should have either had more people on or cut back on reservations. Only good point I have is that the food in each course was delicious and well-plated.

1 hour late to seating. 15 minutes to get water. Food 2/10, Service 1/10. A lot of hype no execution. Experience not representative of reviews I have read. Either 1st event fixed menu, totally understaffed all around and overwhelmed or ???

First time in this restaurant and we went on Thanksgiving day. We got a corner table as requested. The service was good, prompt and timely. We both chose the same menu: bean soup which was delicious, pork with chard, apple and potato purée. The pork were thick slices of ham which surprised us. The accompaniment was good. The apple pie was alright served with a tablespoon of ice cream. Nothing in this menu to write home about.

Running a restaurant is difficult and at the holidays even more so. I have rarely ever written a negative review, but a recent family meal at One Market was one of the most disappointing experiences I can recall. The moment we walked in, there was a strong smell of disinfectant, and three people at the front desk were busy and did not greet us for several minutes. There was confusion leading us to the table. The table was seated right in front of a countertop cabinet where the servers refilled water pitchers and gathered silverwhere, so there was constant clanging and shuffling and noise behind us. The servers shouted to each other several times, which is normal for a diner but not a nice restaurant. Two of the servers had body odor. Our initial appetizer plate consisted of cold quinoa, pickled vegetables, and a scoop of chicken liver pate that had a skin from being sat out for hours. None of these items were edible. Salad course was acceptable but boring. Dinner itself was lukewarm and mediocre. We left before dessert. Never ever again.

Our small group has made a tradition of celebrating Thanksgiving at One Market for the last several years and we all felt the food was better than ever. Our waiter was very kind and the entire front of house staff made us feel very welcome. Another great Thanksgiving dinner.

Thanksgiving dinner couldn’t have been any better. Welcoming ambiance and impeccable service, good wine list and bread with sweet butter. Perfectly sized appetizer included pickled vegetables, liver pâté and quinoa tabouli sans tomato. The arugula and fennel salad with-poached pear and candied walnuts was excellent, , as were our mains, turkey and dressing and pork roast with whipped potatoes, Wev chose 3 house made desserts, apple hand pie, chocolate bread pudding and pumpkin tart, all served with a perfectly paired ice cream or sorbet. Yeah, a wonderful meal and dining experience!
