Inspired by Edinburgh's famous authors, their words and their wisdom, our afternoon tea celebrates the city's storytellers and their famous tales. Each dish will take you on a journey of escapism through different chapters of history inspired by stories, poetry and prose. From Robert Burns to Irvine Welsh and many in between, this afternoon tea menu draws inspiration from each storyteller's depiction of our city and each dish represents a different chapter, fact or fiction, for you to enjoy in the world's first UNESCO City of Literature! Please note from the 4th Dec to 4th Jan all Afternoon Teas will be from our Festive menu. This experience is served in One Square Brasserie and requires a minimum of 24 hours notice.

Enjoy an elegant two-course brunch with La Garde Ecossaise Champagne. Begin with a sharing platter of fresh fruit, pastries & more, then a delightful brunch dish of your choice. Add a glass of La Garde Ecossaise Brut for £12 or upgrade to 1/2 bottle per person for £42. Scotland's famous 'Auld Alliance' with France was forged through centuries of shared values and strategic interests. In the 1420's, 6000 Scottish soldiers arrived in France to fight against the English. Their bravery was honoured with the Kings of France naming their personal bodyguard La Garde Ecossaise du Corps Du Roi; the Scottish Bodyguards to the King. This experience is in One Square Bar with live DJ each Saturday. Not available on the first Sunday of the month.

The fruit and pastries was nice but I think I ordered the wrong brunch dish. I had the chick pea, which was very rich with overpowering flavours. I ate less than half of it and developed a sore stomach later in the day. We felt it was hard to get staff’s attention and had to ask for the dirty mark on our table to be cleaned after I sat down.

Very convenient location for visits to the theatre or city centre. Service was great from start to finish. Food quality was also very good although one fish course was slightly undercooked - so only four stars. Our table was next to a service desk so not a great contribution to our “ambience” but nothing that would prevent us from returning as we intend to do for future visits to the theatre.

We had booked as a party of three for drinks and a lite bite before a show at nearby Usher Hall. On the day we decided the brasserie’s market menu was a bit limited but the bar menu offered more choice. Luckily we were able to change the booking when we arrived. The staff were great. The bar area is cosy, the food offered would suit all tastes and there’s a great choice of drinks & cocktails. The current cocktails list features iconic squares around the world, among them Bridgetown, Barbados and Shibuya, Tokyo. Highly recommend.

Beautiful surroundings & immaculate service but very slow . One hour in we eventually had our starters served . We were attending a Show @ The Usher Hall & had allowed 2 & a quarter hrs for our meal . In the end we had to skip dessert or coffee. Food was good & well presented but not huge portions . We also thought that the £18.00 supplement for the lamb was excessive.

Waiter forgot our drinks order. We waited 10/15 minutes and asked again this time sldo requesting the dessert menu. Another 20/15 minutes passed. Both times he apologised and said sorry I forgot. Once was bad twice unacceptable. Table for a party of four people eating was far too small. The cheeseboard which stated with oatcakes came with a poor selection of 'supermarket style' crackers. We had to request a replacement salt cellar as the one supplied was empty, durrly basic quality control wouldavoid that? Needless to say we did not pay the service charge. We left immediately after dessert so they lost out on two rounds of drinks, the one that took half an hour to order and one we could normally have had st the end of our meal. Very dissatisfied

Literal perfection. Our waiter (Tyler maybe?) was so enthusiastic and it just made our experience all the more enjoyable. The harpist was a nice touch; she made me so chill, I almost fell asleep! (In a good way) Now, the food and the tea. Honestly so so tasty from start to finish! No notes. 10’s, 10’s, 10’s across the board! The birthday treat was a beautiful touch and was the icing on the cake!

Very comfy, warm, but modern setting. Service staff very good and food excellent. We have been more than a few times and alway find an excuse to go back!
