From the OpenTable editors: This MICHELIN-Starred restaurant from legendary, James Beard Award-winning chef and owner Nancy Silverton is the obvious choice for special occasions. The refined lineup of Italian food like grilled octopus, crispy duck confit, and housemade pasta – plus an impressive Old World wine list to match – makes for an outstanding meal, but touches like the mozzarella bar where Silverton herself may plate your food keep things approachable.

Our family has been looking forward to this meal for years! We are big time foodies and were so excited. Apps were delicious. The staff were very nice. Pasta dishes were fabulous! Mains were very good. Dessert was pretty good. The problem we had was that we were seated at the only table IN the bar area. That bar was so packed that people were really encroaching on our space. At times men were standing between myself and my son’s chairs facing away from our table. So our dining experience was definitely tainted by butts at table level while trying to enjoy a splurge meal for my birthday. For a $600 meal for five, I guess I should have asked for a butt free meal.

Cannot recommend this restaurant, sad to say. We had the Pasta Tasting Menu, consisting of 4 small pasta courses and dessert, for $75. Our bill for 2 people, including a mocktail and a soda was slightly under $200 before tip. All the pastas were cooked perfectly. The first dish was a tortellini in broth. It was OK, though unremarkable. That was followed by a butternut squash "tortelloni" with chicory and dates. This was the highlight of our meal. The sauce was especially delicious. It was downhill from there. Our third course was a bucatini with pork and pecerino. It was perhaps the saltiest dish we've ever had in a restaurant. We love prosciutto, caviar, and many other foods that are by nature salty. But this dish jacks up the saltiness to a level almost unfit for human consumption. The fourth and final pasta was a cavatelli with ricotta and duck ragu. While the flavor was decent (though again unremarkable) the consistency of the ragu was basically like a mush, as if you taken the beef from a pot roast and smashed it until it was smooth. This dish could have benefitted from a few vegetables, or something to make it less like baby food. Finally, the dessert consisted of a couple biscotti covered in cream and olive oil. While not bad like the last 2 pasta courses, it was again an unremarkable effort to say the least. We really wanted to love this place, and I'm sad I have to write such a review -- especially in light of Ms. Silverton's history of culinary achievements and accolades. To end on a positive note though, the staff were all very kind to us and professional throughout.

Waiter spoke too quickly, even after we asked him repeatedly to slow down. Strong accent contributed to not understanding him. Would help if menu had descriptions written in English, underneath the Italian words. Food was delicious!

Dinner at the Osteria remains one of the great dining experiences, anywhere, and specifically in Los Angeles. Everyone, absolutely everyone, was professional and helpful. The hostesses and wine steward were pleasant and informative. Our server was outstanding. The AGM Guido was pleasant and talked with my son about the son’s amaro sitting OK business, but did not hesitate to help clear the table. Our server went to the trouble to get descriptions of two obscure Amaros and helped schedule the service our order perfectly. Go back again? Try and keep me away!

We've long been fans of Osteria Mozza, however our most recent visit there was just what it used to be. Much of the food was repetitive and lacked the usual thought and quality. My entree of whole oratta was bland and tasteless. After several bites, I had to stop eating. We ordered several salads which were dry and tasteless. My wife's pasta was dry also dry and tasteless. The bill was huge for the value we recieved and I can honestly say we won't be returning again.
