Located in the heart of Fitzrovia and modelled on the cultural melting pot of communal living, commonly known as 'building societies' in Bombay, is Pahli Hill Bandra Bhai. Named after an old city neighbourhood, Pahli Hill offers the finest regional Indian small plates, derived from home recipes and traditional techniques, made to share in an informal setting. The upstairs restaurant celebrates an eclectic mix of flavours from every corner of the country. A celebration of community and exchange, eating well and informally, of warmth and sharing.

Downstairs, find Bandra Bhai, a retro Indian smuggler’s den. Full of trinkets, foreign liquor, gaudy art, and velvet upholstery, this groovy basement spot serves the best cocktails in London.

Food was spectacular. Only odd and negative point was that after gladly paying the discretionary 12.5% service charge I was asked to tip on top when presented with the card machine, being told that this additional tip would go to a smaller number of the staff as opposed to being divided by all as the original one was. Suffice to say I felt a bit awkward then and really somewhat pressured into handing over more money. So a meal for two with no alcohol ended up costing me £40 for service which I thought was a bit rich. In short, I don’t think you should be asking for more tips on top of an already paid service charge.

I've walked past the restaurant daily and never been in. I needed a venue for a business lunch so thought I would give it a try. As a venue for a business lunch it was perfect, the right level of background music and the serving team were very attentive without being in the way. The food was excellent all 4 of us went for 2 course from the set lunch menu. The crab starter had enough heat but you did not lose the crab flavour the chicken curry thali was perfect. I will be going back.

Very expensive for an Indian cuisine. Almost cafe style with my tables very close to each other.

Service was very poor! Waiters didn’t know the dish they were serving.. one called the beef that we had ordered lamb chops 😂. Bartender kept bringing the wrong drinks and making the wrong drinks. At one stage he spilled the drinks on the people in the next table. But all said the food was excellent! Would definitely go back for the food. Hopefully they would have trained their waiters and bartenders by then 🤞.

We opted in for the tasting menu which was £125 per person. Although the food was relatively good (personally lacking punch for me and maybe too many similar tastes in several dishes with mint chutney)- the tasting menu took over 3 hours and we ended up paying and leaving before dessert even arrived. Service was all over the place and the speed between each course was slow. Also for £125 per person I felt the experience was underwhelming with only a few premium ingredients. I think I was better off going to another fine dining establishment, to be charged that much for such a disappointing experience.

Innovative and tasty, the starters are probably better than the mains, but pretty significantly overpriced.
