Park Tavern on Washington Square has long been a vibrant staple and foundation of the North Beach community. Now, under the helm of renowned American chef-partner Jonathan Waxman and fifth-generation San Franciscan James Nicholas, Park Tavern on Washington Square celebrates San Francisco’s vibrant dining scene with a fresh new era. The restaurant has several private dining options available for groups and parties.

As a Bay Area native and one of the pioneers of “California cuisine” Chef Waxman leans into his roots, celebrating the region’s local ingredients showcased in simple, seasonal dishes. Guests can enjoy a menu including Yellowfin Tuna Crudo with avocado, blood oranges, and fresno chili salsa, Cavatelli with dungeness crab, lemon, and parmesan, and Kurobuta Pork Chop Milanese with new potatoes and pepperonata. A few of Waxman’s trademark dishes make an appearance including the JW Kale Salad with anchovy dressing and breadcrumbs, and the famed JW Chicken with salsa verde.

Realize it's only the 2nd week for the new opening but the issues we saw were partially not related to newness. The food was mediocre, table service was spotty, was hoping for a reincarnation of the original Park Tavern.

They are open, but they are not ready yet. This was their first week and it showed. Service started fine, but the kitchen messed up our order and everything fell apart. The gave us one main and one side that we ordered and an extra side we didn't, but the two other mains were wrong. They took them back. It didn't occur to me, or to them, that they gave us another tables food, but later they said that's what happened. Regardless, we waited at least 15 minutes if not 20 to get the other mains. In the mean time we at the potatoes, which were over cook and some were burned, but my friend asked for a sauce with them and they brought us Aioli, which they charged almost $4 for - which they didn't tell us when we asked for it. BTW, $8 for four slices of bread and butter I was aware of the price, but my friend wasn't when he said yes to it. My friend waited to eat his main, thinking they would be back quickly. By the time they got back it was cold. However, they re-fired the entire ticket. So there was another main for him as well as more, properly cooked potatoes, put our two mains they forgot. However, instead of switching to a hot chicken dish, they kept it, the potatoes, and just gave us the two mains. Mine was cold and under cooked. Carbonara that's cold is bad, but when the bucatini is still crunchy, it's horrible. My wife's duck was well cooked, but there were sides that were both burnt. I would have told them this, if they had ever come back to ask how it was. But they clearly knew better and they just avoided us the rest of our time there. Also, there was no sides on the chicken, but there were on the duck - which makes no sense. There is potential here, but they are not up to speed on the execution and the chef - Jonathan Waxman - the only reason we went there - wasn't in house. He went home on opening week due to the holiday. So we wasted the well over $300 on cold and burnt food. I think they will probably get their act together, but it isn't together yet.

This was like dining at New York’s Barbuto in North Beach! Chef Waxman was in the house when we were there. The overall experience was great - friendly service, wonderful food.

It was opening night so like any new restaurant, there are kinks that need to get ironed out. Our salads, starters and pasta were very tasty. The signature chicken main course was excellent. Unfortunately the pork and fish main courses were a bit bland. Great wine list, especially if you enjoy Italian wines and plenty of others to choose from. Excellent service.

A little sad... Not the great experience it used to be. Overall it felt mediocre. The personality and NYC vibes are gone. The food was disappointing.
