Wonderful atmosphere. Lovely server, who was efficient, courteous and charming. Delicious meal. We even met the chef, who could not have been more interesting. We recommend The Parsonage whole-heartedly!

We were booked for 6.30 but we’re not seated till 7. However, there’s a cosy bar where we ordered cocktails and these were put on the house which was a pleasing gesture! It was very busy and quite noisy , although this quietened as time went on. My only criticism was the lack choice on the menu which we had been told was a la carte. But, we all chose filet of beef which was delicious and they also ‘found’ some cavalo nero! It’s a lovely place to eat with professional service and warm atmosphere.

A good experience but very pricey! Service and ambiance were terrific. The celeriac soup and potted crab starters were delicious. The chicken schnitzel was a bit dry, and the rump steak was tasty. The crème brûlée was delicious but the plum compote and almond cake was disappointing - not nearly enough plum compote (just a few tiny dots on the plate!) and the cake was rather tasteless and dry. The meal for two with no wine was over £130.

Loved the food offering for all courses. We had a fabulous waitress , top of her game. Slightly too expensive but that’s the UK at the moment versus international comparisons.

Afternoon tea at the Parsonage Grill is a great experience at this time of the year. I took my family who, visiting for the first time, wanted to experience something 'quintessentially British'; they were absolutely impressed by the whole experience. We were welcomed by lovely staff, a wonderful burning fire and delightful Christmas decorations. Nice selection of loose the leaves served in silver teapots. Every bite of food was just wonderful and really tasty. I was particularly impressed by the depth of flavour of the Egg & mayo sandwich; the good balance of flavour in the cheese and pickles sandwich. The scones were warm and ever so delicious, as well as the cakes: the almond Madeleine is simply to die for! We'll be back!

Our table was booked for a celebration family tea for seven but despite warnings on the website not to be late our table was not ready, presumably because the previous diners did not vacate. The restaurant was packed and I suspect serious overbooking. There is no waiting area except a cramped reception area or outside (in December - really?) It took at least 20 minutes after our booked slot to be seated and there was then a massive delay in bringing our afternoon tea. We didn't get anything to eat until at least 50 minutes after our booked time slot. They clearly knew we were coming so that is unacceptable. Drinks were brought, but by the time our food arrived they were cold. The dining room was hot but when the air conditioning came on it was so cold some of our party had to put their coats on and then requested it be turned off. When the food finally arrived it was very good, especially the scones which were warm and freshly baked. There was certainly plenty to eat and we took home some boxes with the excess sandwiches and cakes. There was clearly some appreciation that our experience was less than good as we were served complimentary glasses of champagne and the final bill was reduced by 10%. That was a welcome gesture but did not really make up for how we were treated on arrival. Given that this is an expensive venue and the sort of destination one chooses as a treat we would not recommend it and cannot envisage going back.

Thank you, Joyce, for your feedback. We are sorry to hear on this occasion your visit with us did not meet our usually high standards. We were exceptionally busy that, however, this should not have impacted your experience. We hope you can give us another chance at some point in the future. Kind Regards Jack Stacey
