From July 1st, 1957, there had been two owners of Pates, Cloyde Pate followed by the Gardner family of Chatham. Mr. Pate opened the doors to what would soon become one of Cape Cod’s most beloved restaurants. Once a cozy hamburger and ice cream stand, Pates grew to be a place of celebration, camaraderie, and community. From the bonds staff made during countless summer seasons, to the engagements, anniversaries, birthdays, and family gatherings, Pates has been a backdrop for exceptional moments and people.

We are honored to steward the next chapter of the Pates journey. A renovated space to create new memories and friends, Pates is still that very special place. With careful consideration, we have redefined this Chatham classic and are serving up an experience rooted in the best things in life: great food, good people, and lifelong memories.

Celebrated my one year anniversary with my girlfriend and everything went perfectly. They had the champagne I requested chilling and all waitstaff and employees were exceptionally friendly and congratulated us.

Our table placement was lousy. It was close to the door and every time it opened, I was freezing. One woman's incessant laugh distracted me from the rush of food brought to the table. Since this was my birthday celebration, I was surprised we were in and out within an hour. Been there many times but doubt I'll be back anytime soon.

Food was delicious and beautifully presented. The lavash bread and white bean dip were tasty. Caesar salad topped with breadcrumbs rather than croutons and accompanied by the anchovies we requested was ample enough for two to share. Crusted tuna was excellent. Our waitperson Ellen was engaging, helpful and fun! Our table for two was at the end of the restaurant, and we unfortunately could hear the conversation of a small group in the next room. The decor was minimalist. I sat facing a lovely seascape, but my dinner partner faced a boring blank wall….one of several in the restaurant.

Our meal was wonderful. Our server Kendra was pleasant and efficient. The 3 for 3 Menu was an amazing value. We have dinner for tomorrow too. Highly recommend!

We really enjoyed our first time at Pates. Every staff person we spoke to during our visit was happy, attentive, humorous, and were ready to make the dining experience the best. The food was excellent. It’s a pricier meal but felt it was in line with other fine dining on the cape. We will definitely be returning.
