we were so excited to try this new concept because we love mot hai ba. however, what we love about the quaintness of mot hai ba was lost on us at pillar. it is indeed hard to overlook the shadow of boulevardier. but that aside it was difficult to discern what the overall concept was. we weren't sure if it was supposed to be italian or southern of some kind of hybrid. for the price point it was lacking in the kind of service we expect from mot hai ba. sitting at the bar we definitely felt a lack of service. the one cocktail we ordered, a mezcal negroni, was served poorly over crushed ice and not the usual single cube that it deserves. the quality of the food was also not up to par with what we would expect from this group. i hope this new concept can survive and thrive in oak cliff but it seems to me there are a lot of kinks to work out.

Best meal I’ve had in a while. Exceeded expectations. The Nashville fried oysters were amazing, we ordered another. The leeks and the hamachi apple apps were both exceptional. Loved the scallops and lamb pasta for mains - beautiful complex flavors … loved every bite. Excellent wines; great carajillo with tequila version. Amazing desserts …. The chocolate cake from mot hai ba is here and never disappoints. The coconut cream pie was also fantastic, loved the crust. Highly recommend

Great spot! Very familiar yet creative menu. Do not miss the tuna carpaccio, the Nashville oysters or the pork cassoulet. Our server, Danny, made sure we had a lovely time. Kudos to all for a great start to what looks to be a great restaurant.

Sat at the bar while we waited for our table. Service from Jeremy was great and the bar was cozy and spacious, will eat there next time. Jacob and Ivan were great as well. Food was fantastic. Best tartare I’ve had in recent memory. Short Rib cassoulet was phenomenal. Can’t wait to try more.

The food was wonderful. We were at the table for about ten minutes before we were greeted by our server and brought water. Our server didn’t provide any recommendations for food. The food was wonderful. We had the beef tartare, the burger, and the pork rib cassoulet. The cocktails were also very good. Server was friendly. Restaurant was pretty loud.

We are fans of Mot Hai Ba and Pillar is the creation of the same owner chef, however, Pillar is not Vietnamese. The similarities are in the use of diverse subtle flavors that linger. Our starter the hamachi and apple was a great example. The agnolotti was perfect and will be particularly welcome on a cold night. Only complaint is it is a little loud, like most contemporary restaurants today. Maybe turn down the music a little. Overall a great experience and we will return.

Overwhelming service and creative dishes worthy of a Michelin visit. The “potatoes” on the tartare appetizer are better thought of as latkes illegally beamed-in from Rabbi Kotzker’s mirror universe. The Chicken Fried Oysters will trick you into discussing a vacation to cosmopolitan Mississippi. And of course, neglect the coconut cream pie at your peril.

We were very excited to try Mot Hai Ba's sister restaurant. Everything was great at first, but the plates were progressively coming out late. Last plates came out 45 min after the previous. Owner or manager (unsure who he was) apologized and said he would come back to make sure everything was good, but kept on looking at us and never came back. My dirty martini tasted like it had pickle juice in it, not olive juice. Overall the food was great (although too salty) but the service was just not there. Maybe because we were a table of 2, but everyone deserves the same experience. Will probably not come back here, but will definitely be going back to Mot Hai Ba.
