Poppie’s is renowned for authenticity – and it’s little wonder, with born and bred
East-end proprietor, Pat ‘Pop’ Newland, at the helm. Pop’s career in the fish and chip business started in 1952 when, aged 11, he got a job on Roman Road cutting up copies of The Daily Mirror to wrap fish and chips in. With decades of experience behind him, ‘Pop’ founded Poppie’s. The shops are filled with retro memorabilia from Pop’s childhood, The uniforms channel a 1950s vibe, and the music is tailored to each shop. Dining in one of Pops restaurants is an experience with retro vibes and iconic looks from the decades. For instance, Seventies Formica and Anaglypta wallpaper will be just one of many pieces of kitsch decor on show.

    We dined at Poppies in Camden on the final evening of our recent visit to London, and it was the perfect way to end our trip. This place truly sets the bar for excellent food and service. The fish and chips were simply exceptional—crispy, golden batter on the outside and perfectly cooked, flaky fish on the inside. Every bite was bursting with flavor, and the chips were just as they should be: thick-cut, fluffy, and delicious. Their signature tartar sauce was a delightful accompaniment, completing what can only be described as the quintessential British fish and chips experience. The service was outstanding. From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel welcome, ensuring that our meal was flawless. They were attentive without being intrusive and exuded warmth and professionalism that made the dining experience all the more enjoyable. The atmosphere at Poppies is charming and nostalgic, with a vintage vibe that adds to its appeal. It’s clear that this is a place with a passion for quality food and a love for tradition.     Come for jellied eel, don’t have at all that day, tell me it’s fine I can have something else instead. Every thing is very overpriced, including drinks. So we just leave, never back

    We celebrated my son's 18th here after a fantastic day in Camden he loves Fish and chips so we thought it would be a good option and we weren't wrong! The food was fresh and delicious and the service outstanding. They made a real fuss of him and we all had a great time! I would highly recommend Poppies!

    Booked table for us on Saturday night to make sure for my birthday. Welcomed at door but did not have to show booking. Given nice location table upstairs . Service and food very good with nice atmosphere in 1940/50s setting. NB: must see toilets- repro Victorian!
