Set menu sounded fine but then there was a £15 supplement for halibut - really. This used to be a great place for up market fish and chips. Not any longer. Food was fine but came away feeling that we’d been ripped off. Won’t be going back - sorry.

Our 4th visit to Porthminster Beach Café and yet again we had a fabulous meal. Excellent quality choices in fabulous surroundings. Great wines to choose from to accompany the food and a very attentive team on hand. And the fact that you get such a high standard venue which is also v dog friendly means 5 stars all the way. We'll be back!

The food and drink did not disappoint and was of good quality but overall experience was let down by fact that we were offered two tables neither which had a view of the sea in what was at best a half full restaurant. Given we booked 4 days before for our wedding anniversary this was not great in my opinion. Also let down by fact that one of the main coures arrived without vegetable side dishes and had to wait further for theses. Also why are they so mean with the heating? Not as good as our previous experience there but unlikely to come back.

We booked on a weekday so that it would not be too busy. We were not disappointed. The service and food were exceptional as were the views over St Ives and Godrevy Island.

Food was good. It was a quiet November evening with plenty of staff on duty. We’d have liked a little more attention when we wanted to pay the bill.

We've been regular customers for years, but no more. In the pasty year we have noticed a steady deterioration in the quality of the food on offer and the size of the portions, while the Porthminster café has used its enviable position on the beach to inexorably increase prices. What used to be delicious Focaccia bread with a crispy crust and slightly oily flavour has been replaced by a few slices of white bread that you can buy in any supermarket, but for £5. They used to offer simple fish and chips for an eye-watering £22, but now the fish is a halibut loin for £38. My wife always goes for the Asian fish curry which used to contain monkfish, but the monkfish has been replaced with cheap white fish...but the price has gone up. And on November 5th they always used to provide a nice card for our anniversary, but this is another detail which seems to have disappeared. We won't be going back in the foreseeable future. The terrace was closed, it's the place where diners can watch the fireworks on the beach - the manager said it was because they didn't have enough bookings this year. One wonders why.
