The Queen Anne Victorian at 210 Savannah Road in Lewes, DE has stood tall for over 100 years. Built in 1899, Captain W. “Diver” Johnston at the age of 52 collaborated with his business partner (William H. Virden) to build a beautiful new house for him and his wife, Isabella. Records indicate that he paid $400 for the entire lot, one of the most prominent sites in downtown Lewes.Over the next 100 years, the Victorian structure built in the style of Eastlake, an English architect, served as a home for many families, including longtime Lewes Mayor, Otis Smith.

The team at Raas is proud to continue the story of the Queen Anne Victorian. Each chapter of the building’s history has added to its charm and we at Raas are excited for its next chapter.

CELEBRATION OF FOOD & CULTURE

Raas was wonderful. The food was incredible. The manager was our personal guide and waiter. It was both my anniversary and birthday. They gave us complimentary champagne and birthday cake. The only thing I thought would add to the ambiance is to have authentic music playing.

Originally we were apprehensive about why they sat us in a high top at the bar. However, once Jason the bartender came over and said he was handling our experience. I couldn’t ask for a better experience. He personally took responsibility for our experience and gave personalized recommendations on menu items and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. In the future, I will always ask to be seated where Jason is our waiter/bartender. This restaurant and the staff we encountered was top notch and I would recommend Raas to anyone

For Valentine’s Day, my husband and I made reservations at Raa’s. We both enjoy Indian cuisine and were excited to try a new restaurant. Upon arrival, we were led to a small two-person table. Normally, this wouldn’t be an issue, but when dining on Indian food, one tends to order multiple dishes. The table was cramped against a wall, with another table directly behind it. When I sat down, I found myself uncomfortably close to the person at the next table, so my husband moved our table forward. However, this put us directly across from another two-person table and in the path of both the waitstaff and arriving guests. As a result, the couple at that table had to move theirs back, which in turn affected the diners behind them. It should be noted there were multiple empty tables at that time. After seating us, our waiter mentioned that our table was positioned directly over a vent. To prevent us from overheating, he placed two magazines over it—a temporary and unimpressive fix. My husband ordered a drink, but I was disappointed to find that the Indian beer I wanted to try was unavailable. After finishing most of his drink, he discovered a cherry at the bottom—an ingredient that was not listed on the menu. He is allergic to cherries, so it was fortunate that I had a Benadryl with me. When our food arrived, space quickly became an issue. The small table left little room for our plates, so we were given small bowls to compensate. We ordered three different entrées along with naan. While the dishes were plated artistically, the flavors were underwhelming. The chicken kebabs were dry and bland, and the cheese in the saag paneer was similarly dry. The vegetable korma was decent but unremarkable. Fortunately, the naan and raita were plentiful. The biggest disappointment was the price—the portions were small, yet the cost was exorbitant. Overall, we won’t be returning to Raa’s. Instead, we’ll stick with our tried-and-true favorite: Indigo in Rehoboth.

This was my and my husband‘s first time eating in an Indian restaurant. My daughter and her fiancé, who have eaten Indian food, came with us to help us with selecting our order. The weight staff was excellent. The food was very delicious as were the drinks. I highly recommend this as a special occasion restaurant to try.
