Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Chef/Owner John Carver

From the OpenTable editors: It can take months to get into Chef John Carver’s wildly popular Italian restaurant, where there’s a custom woodfired grill at the heart of the industrial space. But it’s worth the wait for fresh pasta and epic steaks, like the cappelletti “bishop’s hats” stuffed with spinach and sauced with brown butter, alongside a 50-day dry-aged porterhouse “la Fiorentina.” Don’t miss the charred veggies, like roasted vine tomatoes with creamy burrata, and wash it all down with a house negroni.

Fantastic experience all the way around. We enjoyed every dish we ordered. Cameron our server was friendly attentive and went out of his way to make sure my wife enjoyed her cocktail. Ambience was comfortable, upbeat and lively. My only gripe is too much goodness on one menu, there were about 6 or 7 more items I wanted to try lol we will be back!

I had a great rime at Red Ash. My friend and i sat at the bar, had an amazing meal of seafood and pasta. We had a great bottle of wine and finished with desert and cappuccino. Our bartenders were so helpful and attentive and even cleaned off our area in between courses. They were friendly and the crowd at the bar were lively and fun. We waited three months for our reservation and it was well worth it . Red Ash is in my top 5 in Austin.

The service and food were great. Would really appreciate some affordable wine choices. The wine list is very expensive.

The Tagliolini with Blue Crab was divine and the Hot Chocolate Gianduja Cake was one of the best chocolate desserts we've ever had. Highly recommend this restaurant. It was worth the 2&1/2 month wait to get in! Our server Zach was very attentive and professional. Thank you for a perfect 25th Anniversary celebration.

We had been looking forward to dining at Red Ash for months, eagerly anticipating an exceptional experience. Unfortunately, while the food was good, the overall experience was far from what we hoped. Upon arrival, the restaurant was lively and full of energy, which we initially welcomed. However, we were seated upstairs near a large group of 14-18 businessmen who were already quite loud. As the evening progressed—and as more drinks were consumed—their noise level escalated to an unbearable degree, making it nearly impossible to enjoy our meal. We politely brought this to the attention of the waitstaff, who acknowledged the issue and apologized but ultimately took no meaningful action to address the disturbance. As we finished our meal, another couple nearby decided to say something to the group as they left, which was met with jeering and taunting, nearly escalating into a physical altercation. The situation was entirely avoidable had the staff intervened earlier. After the confrontation between the couple and the businessmen, the manager again apologized to the nearby tables. While they did comp our appetizers, it did little to make up for the lost experience of what should have been an enjoyable evening. For a restaurant of this caliber, where dinner and drinks cost several hundred dollars per couple, we expect more—not just in terms of great food but in creating an atmosphere where all guests can dine comfortably. We truly wanted to be fans, but given this experience, it’s hard to justify a return visit.

This was our first time back in 4 years. This restaurant is perfection! From the front desk being so gracious and friendly, Every waiter was so happy to serve us, Emma was our personal server and was very nice and helpful in choosing our selections. We split the large bone in filet, it was perfectly cooked and so flavorful. We also had the fresh gnocchi special with mushrooms, the gnocchi was the best I’ve ever had. It was perfect for sharing. We split the Caesar salad, clams and garlic bread to start, so very flavorful. Highly suggest, and can’t wait to return!! Ps… we loved how every course was brought by a different server as it came up ready in kitchen, and they all were so friendly, engaging and happy to be there. This restaurant is operated so well, when you have employees this friendly is says volumes about the management.
