   We went there specifically for the endless shrimp promotion. Food was great; service was subpar. The shrimp and drink refills were extremely slow to come out. I was so disappointed in our server, Carter, that we asked to speak to the manager. All in all, we spent about 2 1/2 there.

   Red Lobster South Plainfield, NJ is a good choice! We ordered two very good meals, the Seafarer's Feast and the Mariner's Feast (both in the $30.00 price range.) One platter was Fried Shrimp, grilled Maine Lobster tail, Garlic Shrimp, and a skewer of 4 fantastic scallops. The other was Fried Shrimp, the skewer of scallops, and Salmon topped with Langostino sauce. Each came with a choice of two sides and the Cheddar Bay biscuits. Our choices were garden salad and mashed potatoes. Everything was very good! Our waiter was new but very concerned about doing a good job; he checked with us several times, and I also heard him asking another customer if his cocktail had come out the way he requested. That customer was also very satisfied and joked with the server. Another server who recognized us (I was surprised by that), came over just to ask how our grandchildren were doing because she remembered their photos from a previous visit. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. The only real drawback to most of the Red Lobster chain is the somewhat dated decor. I can live with that.

   After being seated by the host, no one came to our table to wait on us for 30 min. Multiple customers that were seated after us received service right away. We felt like walking out but I decided to get up and finally ask for service. The gentleman that waited on us was very friendly and apologetic. The food came pretty quickly and overall it was very good. We never received the cheddar biscuits and because we waited for so long to be waited on we didn’t even notice it until after our meal. Not sure if we will come back to this location any time soon.

   I was there with family to visit my daughter who attends Rutgers. They didn’t have biscuits for no one (my daughter says that happened the last time she was there too). I made a big deal of it that I wanted them before my entree and that’s when the server emerged with them (kind of sneakily). I heard others around us complaining about the same thing as well as their dirty table. The food was just okay. I could tell mine and my wife’s was sitting because it was lukewarm. The bathroom also had no paper towels smh. My daughters said there was little in the ladies room. Also there was so much confusion checking in for my reservation. I saw people pretty frustrated. This location is not well run. I don’t plan to re-visit this location.

    I realize that Red Lobster is a chain and can't be compared fairly to a fine dining restaurant. However, you can't go wrong during Lobster fest or other special promotions. We recently went for a promotion of choose 4 items to create your plate (one lobster dish, like a Maine lobster tail or lobster alfredo, one entree like a 6 oz steak, and two shrimp items such as coconut shrimp, fried shrimp, grilled shrimp or shrimp scampi. This came with salad, two sides, and hot biscuits. There are some regular items on the menu that are always of good quality/value like the mixed shellfish pot with pasta and garlic, fried seafood platter, lunch time fish, shrimp or lobster tacos or the Choose Your Own Combination with choice of two items or three items (for these combos there are at least 9 items to choose from). I have an elderly aunt who loves to get the small scallops and grilled shrimp skewer as her two choices. (Meals all are accompanied by great cheesy garlic biscuits, choice of salad, and usually at least one other side. ) The day we were there the manager was extremely personable (we have never met an unfriendly manager there) and the server was attentive and friendly as well. The restaurant was very busy but we could watch a lot of the wait staff working hard to keep their tables happy. I would suggest checking out special promotions and giving Red Lobster a try if you haven't been there in a while. They have a much larger menu than you probably remember.
