Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Michelle Carpenter

From the OpenTable editors: The James Beard Awards, Eater Dallas, and D Magazine have all showered praise on chefs Michelle Carpenter's and Terance Jenkins's Cajun/Creole charmer in Oak Cliff. The duo cut their teeth in New Orleans, and that influence shines in everything from statement fleur-de-lys wallpaper to elegant dishes like shrimp and grits (cornmeal porridge) and vegan gumbo.

We went for a special women-inspired dinner. We loved the vibe & the intent & the menu looked excellent. The Ramos Gin Fizz was fun & the Turnip & potato soup was silken, although I added a little salt. Endive, grapefruit & avocado salad hit just the right notes, as did the orange wine. The fish cakes were, well, fishy & the beurre blanc was too creamy to cut through the fishyness. Crab & shrimp lasagna was decadent and so rich there was not way to eat it all. The Brunello was lovely & not tanic at all. Brisket bouruignon would have been lovely had it not been deconstructed leaving the brisket feeling dry & barely dressed. The triple Valhrona Chocolate mousse was lovely and paired well with the chicory coffee. Really couldn't get past the amaretto/almond extract smell & taste of the old-fashioned, but others seemed to enjoy it, and I am not a bourbon drinker as a rule. Our serverr, Brent, was lovely & responsive. We felt the amicable vibe in the restaurant was positive & fun. It took us 3 trips around the block to figure how to get into the parking lot. The restaurant is easy to miss next to LaComita, so get specific directions, because I never found the Beatrice sign.

Place has potential, but failed to meet expectation’s. Went on a Saturday at 5 PM for the seasonal patio crawfish boil. Arrived at 5 and the gate to the restaurant was closed as the staff was not ready to seat guests. There’s a great crawfish boil setup on the patio that was not being used - made me wonder if I was eating fresh crawfish. Restaurant was out of sausage. it’s featured on nearly every dish so I’m not sure how this is happens on a Saturday. Crawfish was so so and high priced compared to others in Dallas. Decent cocktails - lack of selection of beer.

My server Joseph was fantastic. He was extremely well-informed about all the items on the menu and provided some excellent suggestions. I will certainly come back in the future. Side note: Try the King Cake if it’s available, you won’t regret it.

We came for the Mardi Gras menu and was not disappointed. Jay provided outstanding service. All the hype around this eatery is well deserved.

We had a lovely experience for Valentine's Day with a prix fixe menu. The bartender was exquisite as our martini was perfectly prepared; the lobster bisque delicious, and the Princess cake a perfect end to a wonderful meal. Diego was a terrific server. Well done!

The food was delicious. The service was great. The waiter Jay was very knowledgeable about the menu and the ingredients to help us avoid food, allergies. The Green Gumbo was creative and most flavorful. The fried chicken and fried catfish was seasoned well. The praline sauce for the waffle was very good. We enjoyed our brunch and we will return.

We have been here several times. It is always a wonderful experience. The special Mardi Gras menu had so many wonderful choices. We had the Charbroiled Oysters, which were smoky and rich, with tasso and a bit of spicy heat. Our entrées were the Catfish Atchafalaya and the Shrimp and Grits. Both dishes were excellent and hearty portions. For dessert we shared the King Cake (individual size) and the Mandarin Sorbet. It was a wonderful meal, as always!
