   We paid in advance for the Christmas Eve special dinner. The date is our anniversary and we came here last year to celebrate. The menu was nearly the same, but this year, we were required to pay in advance. No big deal, but a lot more expensive The menu sent in advance had three entrees, a couple of salads and 3 appetisers. I was looking forward to the stuffed mushrooms with shrimp and lobster. Instead that shrimp and lobster was stuffed into a bacon wrapped jalapeno. I could sort of taste the seafood, but it took a long time for my mouth to recover from the heat. As it happens I did have time, because the salads were inexplicably delayed. Our waiter, Dash is excelent. We have encountered him a few times here. He was dismayed by the delay and checked twice on the salads. In between, he stopped by to let us know that the featured dessert was 86'd. OK. Who is in a hurry on Christmas Eve anyway? We enjoyed a bottle of Latour pinot, nearly finishing it by the time the salads came. Two of us had the pomegranate salad and two had the wedge. The pomegranate plates were wiped clean. The wedge salads were not wedge shaped, but presented as a giant volcano of inceberg with crumbles and buttermilk vinagrette drizzled over. Those plates were not clean. On to the entree. We brought a bottle of Sonoma pinot for the $25 corkage fee. It was interesting to compare the two styles. The seabass was supposed to come with zucchini canneloni, but instead there were three thin discs of zucchini. The sinach creme was three small dots on the plate and the fish was served over a coconut rice. While the roasted seabass was fairly well cooked, it did not have a fresh flavor at all. Their pan seared fish was always a favorite of mine. This one did not measure up. The beef wellington was well made and the mushroom ravioli looked delicious but messy. The price was nearly double our last anniversary dinner and a bit dissappointing.

   As I wrote last time we ate there, 4940 has matured and mastered the art of combining excellent food with impeccable service. From being greeted by Julie to Kyle's recommendations and service, the feeling is one of returning to one's favorite neighborhood restaurant to be greeted and served by old and good friends and neighbors and a kitchen that comes through every time. The grilled romaine salad is as good as it gets; the sea bass was once again the jewel of the restaurant; the Moroccan spiced lamb shank was very good; and the desserts were terrific. I find the chocolate dessert a bit dry for my taste but the chocoholics in our party of five were very pleased with it and my apple creme brulee was great. The piece d'resistance was Julie's decaf cappuccino - smooth and just right to go with the dessert. A lovely evening. Along with the Indigo Crow ("the Crow") 4940 gives Corrales Village two great choices for relaxed and very satisfying fine dining.

   GREAT food and drinks. The service was lacking. We made a reservation for a specific time and were first seated in the front area for cocktails. The main table that we were scheduled for was available fifteen minutes after our time. Once seated we were waiting to order for another 15 minutes. The main dining room is small and loud. Even though close to the kitchen, service was few and far between. The food was when it arrived was amazing however. Our 730 reservation ended up being a 3 hour dinner after all was said and done.

   Overall it was a really nice and busy restaurant. The food was superb and the wait staff were very kind. We were seated next to the kitchen so it was very busy and bustling. We would definitely come back for dinner again and the waiter, Christopher, invited us back for brunch. We really liked the farm to table vibe and how the menu was seasonal. The cocktails were diverse and there were plenty of options.

    The quality of the mixology bartending and the cuisine overcome the cramped feeling of the banquete tables and nose. Good for them that they were busy! The food is prices, but absolutely delicious, everything fresh-tasting with distinction flavors. It was our first visit, and we'll be back.
