Riccardo started his career at a very young age in Milan's prestigious "GIRARROSTO" family owned. Then, in 1982 he moved to the United States and he opened the famous Sonny Bono's in Los Angeles. In 1987 he started to work with his cousin Roberto Ruggeri, with him he opened Bice New York, Los Angeles and many others around the world.

Together with his wife (and sous chef), Veronica, and his cousin (and hostess), Barbara, he decided to continue his gastronomic artistry and creativity in his restaurant named after himself "Riccardo Trattoria."

Here through the craftsmanship of an Italian food connoisseur, dishes are prepared with an almost zen-like essentiality that has shaped Riccardo's professional and existential life course. Some highlights of the menu are Veal Chop Milanese, Veal Shank Osso Bucco, Pappardelle with Short Rib Ragu, various classic Rissotto preparations, and for dessert options like Panna Cotta, Homemade Tiramisu and Tuscan Ricotta Cheesecake round out the menu.

Review summary

AI-generated from verified diner reviews
Riccardo Trattoria is a beloved Italian gem in Lincoln Park, known for its "exceptional food and service." Diners rave about its authentic Italian dishes, like the veal chop and tagliolini with truffles. The cozy atmosphere and "attentive staff" make it perfect for a memorable dining experience, although it can be "very loud" when busy.

We love this restaurant and spending Christmas Eve there was a wonderful treat. Food was as good or better than usual and service was top notch and they made it a very special evening. We need to go here more often as every time it’s so delicious.

The only true Italian restaurant in Chicago. The cuisine is fabulous and the ambience is "downtown Milan." A very extensive menu - both the regular menu and the daily specials - and very reasonable prices, and for the wine, as well. This has been and remains our favorite restaurant!

Flatbread with prosciutto and asparagus soufflé were awesome. The orchiette with sausage was excellent. Pesto pasta was also over the top. Food as always was superior. Service was exceptional.

The ambiance is slightly less enjoyable than a TGIFs. We had a party of six adults. We were initially seated at a small table by the door. We barely fit and being it winter, every time the door opened, cold air blew on our table. I identified another table that was large enough to accommodate and once the people sitting there left, we were relocated. The staff was sure to tell us to take our menus. That was the second time that I felt like walking out. The waiter was less than stellar and made us feel like an inconvenience. The food was par at best. I had the lobster ravioli. The lobster meat was miniature tails that looked like crayfish. The flavor was less than energetic. Overall experience was a never return.

We love Ricardo’s Trattoria! The menu is extensive and food is always incredible. I always start with Hava brand with shaved truffles and cheese-delicious. This week we tried the pasta fagioli, which was good but not my favorite. A different style than I’m used to. We add omit the Osso Bucco and it was outstanding. Unfortunately we were once again sat at a table in the corner- looking at the corner of the room. They don’t put g th he chairs next to each other in the corner like most restaurants do. Might as well get delivery and eat at home- better view. We got there early and waited 20 minutes after our 7:45 reservation time to be sat so didn’t want to wait longer in the tiny vestibule longer for a different table. They should offer you a small wine while you wait since there is no bar. We were there for 40 minutes

The food was delicious! Too many choices! We selected one featured lobster/pasta dish and a melt in your mouth veal dish. The Italian wine went so well with the meal. But my boyfriend enjoyed their Italian beer. We weren’t rushed at all so we were able to take our time and enjoy the ambiance, the meal, and being together. One customer gave us some advice on their favorites. When we left they even came over and asked us how we enjoyed our evening. It couldn’t have been better. They shared with us that they have been coming for twenty years! We will be back! Susie & Ryan from Iowa

The tagliolini al burro e parmigiano with white truffle was heaven. Arancini siciliani fritti exploded with flavor. For the main we had veal milanese and chicken breast milanese very good. The lava cake was great ending. The service was spot on. A great night!
