Rio Chama in Santa Fe, New Mexico is located not far from the Santa Fe Plaza, next to the state capitol. Since 2001, the restaurant has developed a reputation for simple, elegant dishes made with high-quality ingredients. You'll find a relaxing atmosphere offering a mix of intimate dining rooms, inviting patios and one of Santa Fe's most popular bars. It is a long standing Santa Fe institution, where Executive Chef Joel Hernandez features modern American cuisine serving the best prime rib, steaks and seafood. We serve the Edible Magazine 2023 People's Choice for best green chile cheeseburger. Excellent food, wine, and spirits with great hospitality and service make Rio Chama perfect for any occasion.

We take reservations for the dining room only. Our bar and Doug Montgomery @ The President’s room is first come first serve basis.

We had a 7:15 PM reservation. We arrived at 7 AM. We were not seated until 7:30 PM. We were asked many times if we had a reservations. Lack of communication! Our server did not know the difference between Perrier and sparkling water. Unfortunately, they should be educated on this. Our food arrived after an hour of placing our appetizers. We were asked twice if our appetizers had arrived again lack of communication on the part of the restaurant. WE WILL NOT BE GOING BACK TO EAT AT THIS LOCATION EVER AGAIN.

Won’t return anytime soon. Christmas Eve. Out of town guests with us. Reservation for 6:15. Chaos at check in area. Staff were like deer in the headlights. Overwhelmed. Owners are clearly greedy or incompetent. Not enough staff. Finally seated almost an hour later at 7:10. Ordered everything immediately as we were now late for an event. Food arrived 7:50. Mediocre at best. Don’t bother.

Not once, in all the MANY OpenTable reminders or anywhere else was it explained that the entire restaurant had an extremely limiting menu offered! No hamburgers even in the bar. Apart from the Cesaer salad ( which was excellent) our dinners were both mediocre at best. We’ve eaten here many times, in both areas/ menus and always enjoyed. But the ribeye was mysteriously both rare and well done, not to mention tough. And WHY on earth was the pasta pre cut up? Confusing and weird. We had zero interest in staying for dessert. We completely understand they were slammed for Christmas Eve ( large crowd waiting in the lobby area). Staff was working hard. But lack of communication on the limited menu gets a thumbs down from us. Had we been warned, we would have chosen a different restaurant.

Over booked and understaffed. Should not have taken so many res for Christmas Eve. Waited for table, order & food. Salmon was super dry - had been sitting long time before serving; short ribs tough; prime rib - excellent. Cesear salad very good. Fondue - not warm enough - needed more sherry for flavor.

They did not have our table (party of 3) at the time of reservation telling us they were overbooked, but they seated a couple who came after us at the booth. We sat at the 2 people table with an extra chair 30 min after our reservation.

Last night I took my daughter to dinner on a date to celebrate her 20th birthday. We sat in the President's Room and listened to Doug Montgomery play piano. It was delightful with the Fondue as our appetizer as a wonderful sharing appetizer. I ordered the Elk Loin and it was the best I have ever had cooked medium to perfection. I'm so grateful Rio Chama is here in Santa Fe. One of my top restaurants. Doug's piano playing was a delight! My daughter and I had a blast. Thank you Rio Chama.

Food was satisfactory. Service was not. Very slow and inattentive. Ordered a bottle of wine and waited. 15 minutes to be told they didn’t have it. Ordered a second bottle of wine and same result. Not at all pleasant dining experience, especially for the inflated prices. As l local Santa Feans we know there are many better choices.
