Review summary

AI-generated from verified diner reviews
Roast offers a charming dining experience with "excellent food and service" and "beautifully decorated" surroundings. Its location above Borough Market provides a unique atmosphere, perfect for special occasions. While the festive decor creates a "great Christmas vibe," some guests note slower service during busy times. Overall, a delightful visit awaits.

I was very disappointed with Roast this afternoon. Having booked a table at 4pm we arrived in time and joined a queue just to get to the desk to check in. We were in the queue for over half an hour. I understand it was busy but the treatment we received while being in the queue as quite rude and I felt like it was us who had done something wrong. I was baffled with the attitude of the manager who seemed really annoyed that we had booked a table for 4 people. We then waited for another 10 mins for her to seat us. All in all it was 50 mins from the time our table was booked for to when we ordered our drinks. The waiting staff were nice and the food was lovely but I was disappointed with the initial service and we still had to ask the waiter for the drinks menu then try and call him back to order. They seemed to have far more tables than they could cope with. I’m not sure I would recommend Roast as whatever was going on at the front desk with the bookings really spoilt what was supposed to be a nice afternoon.

It took 60 minutes between ordering our food and it being served despite questioning the delay twice . Other tables were served before our table despite being seated after us Food when it arrived was satisfactory

Sadly we had a disappointing experience here Sunday 26th Jan. The service and wait times for the food were not acceptable, 20 mins to be seated with a booking, crowded reception where you spill out into the seating area. 1 hour 45 mins for mains to arrive after 3/4 chasers when only 2 of us. Food was good once it arrived but the place was heaving, loud and not enjoyable. £130 for 2 mains, 1 starter and 3 drinks so not cheap & wont be returning, especially not on a Sunday. The manager did apologise and we were given a discount off our bill which was appreciated but sadly the experience was already ruined for my husbands birthday, didn’t even get time for dessert. Location is fab but think they need to cut down the number of bookings so they can really look after their customers and provide the service the price tag carries.

Firstly let me say the Sunday Roast was probably the best I'd ever had and the staff were very friendly and upbeat. However, after arriving at 1415, we ordered drinks and then starter (to share between 4) and mains. The main course arrived at 1550hrs with an apology from the head waiter about the wait. At 1612hrs the front desk arrived with the bill stating that we had 3 minutes to vacate the table. I pointed out that we had only just eaten and they should reign it in. Had to say this a few times as they were pursuing my departure. Said staff departed and we ordered desserts and coffee and left around 1700hrs best part of 3 hrs. Not an expert in hospitality but to my untrained eye the kitchen was overwhelmed an could not cope with the spike in orders mid afternoon. We won't be returning.

The wait for our table was ridiculous as we had booked at 2pm but table not ready for nearly 25 minutes later and we had to stand around in a tiny entrance lobby feeling like third class guests. It got the whole experience off to a terrible start and staff were so busy we had to make a complaint to the manager. Sadly it’s because a machine to make money and lost the quality experience of old. Not going back as plenty of alternatives.

I would give more stars however you are not given enough time to fully enjoy your meal At no point during the reservation or when we were seated were we told if a time restriction however before we even had a chance to look at the dessert menu and with half a bottle of wine left we were given the bill and told they needed the table back as we had taken up our 2hr time slot When you’re paying over £300 for a meal I do not expect to be rushed like that. There’s no area either that you could move to to finish your drink. The food is amazing here we both had the beef wellington but shame more time is given to enjoy it.

Amazing food! Best roast I’ve ever had and I’ve had a few. Only slight criticism is the amount of gravy so be sure to ask for extra. Staff and ambience however impeccable and totally worth the price.

The place is lovely and the staff couldn’t be more courteous and welcoming. However, the food was a disappointment. I had a Venison Pie that was just inedible - the cris was soggy and the stew gristly.
