The Roma is a throwback, classic American Italian restaurant located in the heart of the West End on Congress St, that pays tribute to the great American Italian restaurants of decades past. The Roma will serve classic Italian-American fare in a relaxed and comfortable dining room. Love for comfort food.

I really loved the small intimate dining room. The music was peaceful and low. This was an excellent date night spot. The halibut was cooked perfectly and the carrot purée worth coming back for. The Roma Jam cocktail was delightful. We will definitely be back soon. What a gem!

Service was great. All dinners were wonderful. Halibut was cooked just right and the lobster ravioli were dynamite.

The Roma is the best place for an Italian meal for any occasion, special or otherwise. The ambience is perfect, a dining room in an old mansion, the food is outstanding, and the service is first rate. I would say it is one of the best, if not the best, overall dining experience for a romantic evening in Portland. There are other places that might be more recognized for their culinary offerings, but so many of them are loud with high ceilings, open kitchens, and awkward seating. The Roma is a perfect trifecta of a dining experience.

The experience could not have been better! It was a snowy night so the crowd was reasonable, but the service, food, wine and ambiance were outstanding. I’ve traveled to many wonderful cities and have had the good fortune to eat many incredible meals, but this one was special! Ask for Matt.

Friend and I went for a snow day dinner for 2 special, it was lovely! A bottle of house wine (choice of red or white), wonderful table bread, delicious winter salad, two perfect pastas, and the best cannoli’s I’ve ever had - all for $80! Quiet candle-lit ambiance with exceptional service as well. Will definitely be going back to Roma :)

Pasta is excellent. Had the bolognese and it was delicious. Calamari was on the chewier side and lacking a bit in flavor. The brussels sounded amazing but also lacking a lot in flavor. The braised short ribs were average. Espresso martini was beautiful in presentation and pretty good. I've been before where the noise was nearly unbearable, but this time was it was very respectable and really enjoyed the ambiance. The lighting and the decor make for a really intimate dining experience, as long as the other guests aren't loud. Our server was congenial and attentive and also knowledgeable about the menu.

A mediocre Caesar salad - hard croutons, rock hard prosciutto ‘chips’, insufficient dressing, no anchovy - cost $16.

We visited Portland from Boston. By luck we found The RomaCafe. In an old brown stone on Congress st. With 100% assurance I can tell you Romas dishes are better than anything you’ll find in Boston’s North End and I love The North End.
