   Review for Salty’s Restaurant, Clearwater, FL We were really looking forward to dining at Salty’s after seeing all the great reviews, so we made reservations in advance. Unfortunately, the experience was a bit mixed. We ordered the grouper tacos, which were a disappointment. The tacos were mostly dry cabbage—about 80%—with only a small amount of grouper on a plain flour tortilla that lacked flavor. Honestly, it felt like I was biting into a cabbage taco, and I ended up combining the grouper from all three tacos just to make one decent taco. On a positive note, the grouper and fries from the appetizer menu were delicious and definitely the highlight of our meal. Overall, while we were let down by the tacos, the appetizer showed the kitchen’s potential. Hopefully, they improve the balance in their taco dish because the quality of the fish deserves better presentation.

   Food was ok, fish a bit over cooked. Asked for a cold glass for can of beer and got hot glass. Very close to beach. Music down stairs and we were upstairs, which kept noise level down

   Loved the live music and the downstairs outside dining was nice but the food was blah. Ahi tuna was ok until I hit a grisly spot that couldn’t be chewed (needed better trimming) and I’m not sure the best way to do this but the tuna was unpleasantly cold (not cool) on inside. It’s a balance to just sear and have a good temp inside but not cooked through, but I’ve had it before and this was refrigerator cold inside. Broccoli was overcooked (mushy) and coconut rice just wasn’t my thing (which is just a personal thing, not a complaint). Not worth $30 for that meal. My son had a burger and a soda which was fine, but it was a premade packaged burger, not fresh. I had one $12 wine and altogether our meal was $81 for those 4 items and I do NOT think that was an $81 experience. I’m not cheap and have been in the restaurant biz for decades, so I get the challenges. It was just a blah dining experience.

   In all honesty, it’s a beach bar on a city street. You can’t even see the water. They don’t have parking, so you have to search for blocks and walk back. Both food and drinks were just meh. Red Lobster style fries and frozen seafood. Not impressed. The best part was that we didn’t feel rushed and were able to just sit and chat. Not too crowded for a Sunday afternoon.

    Unfortunately—ran out of oysters. That was my main purpose of going. King crab was great
